Texting and bullet trains
The governor signs a bill permitting texting while driving as long as it is a hands-free device. Since when do you have to concentrate on your driving? There are so many other things that can be done while driving at 70 miles an hour. Is it a good idea to concentrate solely on driving?
When I die I want to die in my sleep, not screaming like the people in the back seat. Inattention: does this increase your chances of doctors surgically removing that car part from your posterior?
I think this is a bad move by our governor, and of course our legislators set the pattern for bad decisions — one using smoke and mirrors when balancing the state budget. They are making good money to solve the state's problems, not create new laws and more hardships on the citizens of California. We need people like Tom Berryhill to bring some sense to Sacramento, to stop some of the party time and spending so much time with lobbyists.
Now construction of a high-speed rail during a depression — that is boondoggle waiting to happen. You have 10 percent of the people who will be using this money pit. Is there such a thing as brain freeze? China probably will be the low bidder, since they are almost finished with that bridge in Portland, Ore. With a more than 1 billion population in China, they are not about to run out of labor. They're making uniforms for our athletes competing in the Olympics. They will have no problem supplying the manpower needed to complete the high-speed rail on time.
Nice going, governor.
