On a Thursday a few weeks ago, my dog and I were walking on Elm Street. A large light brown dog with a knit sweater and a smaller light brown dog aggressively charged across Elm and attacked my dog.

God must have been watching and didn’t want me to lose my dear furry friend.

Out of nowhere, coming to a screeching halt in a large red fire engine, was a group of Lodi’s finest firefighters. The sound of their brakes and their boots hitting the pavement caused the largest dog to let go of my dog, and both loose dogs then ran again across Elm to some apartments.

The firefighter asked if I was all right and if my dog was all right, and I told them yes. What I didn’t tell them was: From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
