This letter is regarding the article “Walmart to buy farmland” in the Friday, June 21 lodinews-Sentinel. This attempt to bribe the city into approving their new superstore falls short for this Lodi resident.
Instead, why doesn’t Walmart agree to pay employees a living wage and benefits even equal to Costco? Why doesn’t Walmart agree to be responsible for the multi-thousand-square-foot area it is about to abandon?
Even better yet, why doesn’t Walmart open its colossal Supercenter on the tract of land near the White Slough Pollution Control Center? It’s a perfect location for a company that has a history of “sucking dry” the economies of thousands of cities across America.
I again vote “no” for Walmart’s expansion in Lodi!
