Mr. Esparza's letter in Lodi News-Sentinel (Oct. 27) did not shine kindly on Democrats.

Through my letter here, I'd like to ask Mr. Esparza if he gets paid a fair wage (nothing less than the federal minimum) and receives overtime pay when earned?

Has he or anyone in his family ever received Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid? Has he or anyone in his family taken time off work due to a serious illness, accident or birth of a child?

Does he and everyone in his family work in a clean, safe workplace? Does he and his family enjoy breathing clean air, drinking clean water, eating safe food, and using safe toiletries, cosmetics, children's clothing and toys?

Is his money safe in his bank because of FDIC?

Was he, his parents or grandparents helped by the GI Bill that granted veterans loans to pursue higher education and purchase homes?

As a veteran, I hope he gets to take advantage of the much-needed funding that President Obama signed into law last year under the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act. (Which is still not adequate, by any stretch.)

Did he or a family member ever have the need to receive unemployment insurance benefits, extended or otherwise?

If Mr. Esparza answers "yes" to any of the above questions, he can thank a Democrat.

I am not saying other parties haven't done anything to bring forth good things for Americans (and what I've cited here is just a small sample), but if Mr. Esparza would be so kind as to enlighten me to what they might be, I would like very much to see them here.

One last thing, Mr. Esparza, in response to your statement that "they (Democrats) hate war." I would think that anyone in their right mind would "hate war." I think the Iraq "war" was based on lies from the beginning, as most of them are. And do you have an example where Democrats have shown "disrespect" for generals and fallen soldiers?

Just saying you "love your country" doesn't mean Democrats aren't just as patriotic as you.

Bobin stated...Now Vietnam is a wonderful tourist country ... I agree, I love it there!!

I disagree, I think that is a rewrite of history. That is what you and I wish happened.

Mr. Musto wrote: "but those protesters did not have the authority to send our brave fighting forces into combat one day then for political purposes denounce them the next."

Mr. Musto, I don't know how old you are, but if you were at least in high school during the Vietnam War, I'm sure you may remember soldiers being spit on and attacked when they were returning from war. Either way, I don't think that your example of Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton has anything to do with "denouncing" our troops.

If what you mean to say is that by not supporting the "war" in Iraq, these senators are "denouncing" our troops, then you can also say that Bush and Cheney "denounced" the troops by knowingly sending them into an unprovoked war under shady circumstances and without the proper armor and other needed materiel.

Why conservatives cannot admit once and for all the the Iraq war was staged by the Cheney administration...OOPS, sorry, the Bush administration, is beyond me. Are you all still waiting for the discovery of the fabled "weapons of mass destruction," or do you all still think that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11? Really....

Marcia Savage wonders if there were Democrats that have shown disrespect for "generals", well I have named one prominent Democrat who not only authorized the president to go to war then when the tide seemed to turn stated that the same war was now lost. Hillary Clinton was also one of 67 Democrats that took to the floor of Congress giving testimony as to why she authorized the president to invade Iraq, she later in 2007 during a Senate hearing regarding the "surge" testified that the report given by General Petraeus, "really requires the willing suspension of disbelief." Maybe to some people that equates to the anti-war protesters during the Vietnam War, but those protesters did not have the authority to send our brave fighting forces into combat one day then for political purposes denounce them the next.

Mr. Musto, the same could be said for the anti-war protestors during the Vietnam "war." But their efforts helped to end the war and brought the troops home after a horrifying sacrifice for 50,000 men and their families. Now Vietnam is a wonderful tourist country and we wonder for what those men and women died.

Protestors were called anti-American, but they ended up helping to save lives.

"this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat Senator, Nevada. Telling the people that the war is lost is not what the average American wanted one of their elected officials to say while brave men and women were still fighting and dying in Iraq.
