Shame on the Galt Chamber of Commerce for "un-inviting" Kathleen Amos from their Community Forum last Wednesday night.

City Clerk, Liz Aguirre, sent her the general invitation to all certified candidates, but Chamber President (and realtor), Ann Ullrich, "un-invited" Kathleen. Moderator David Herburger enforced her exclusion from any discussion of the issues or the photo of the candidates, even though Kathleen attended.

Kathleen became a member of the Galt Chamber in 1991 when most of its board members were still in high school or college. Perhaps that is why Ullrich feels she needs to silence one of the Chamber's own members. More likely, it is because Kathleen, as a parent and small business owner who has lived in Galt 21 years, does not endorse the incumbent's plan to double the population of the city within 19 years.

Write-in candidate Amos has made it clear in City Council meetings that she believes that infrastructure needs to be in place before further expansion occurs. She is running on a platform for increased police officers, completion of the wastewater treatment plant upgrades, completion of the second high school, and completion of the overpasses at C Street and Twin Cities Road before more people are brought into the city. This would slow the current rate of growth but make life more livable for current city residents.

Obviously, Chamber leadership has little respect for ordinary rules of fair play.
