On Aug. 27, a small white dog was hit and killed on Oak Street right in front of the parking lot of Hutchins Street Square. The first driver hit the dog and continued on their merry way. While the dog was trying to desperately crawl to safety, someone driving a big white Chevy truck ran right over the dog and killed it.

Would it have been so hard to stop and help this poor, suffering creature? What was keeping you from paying attention to what was ahead of you in the road at 9:50 a.m.? Whether the dog was off leash and in the middle of the road, couldn’t you have slowed down to avoid it?

I cannot believe how irresponsible you two individuals were. Next time it could be someone’s child.

There are so many dogs running free in Lodi. My daughter and I were driving down Cherokee Lane a few months back. There was a dog laying in the street, hit by a car but still alive. My daughter stopped the car and got out and picked him up. We drove him to Cherokee Vet, which was only a few blocks away. Sadly, they had to put the dog to sleep but why couldn't the person who hit him have stopped and done what we did? I completely blame the owners of the animals for this but the drivers need to take responsibility too. If you hit an animal, stop and take it to a vet. If you hit a child, would you keep on going? A life is a life. Do you think that animal feels any less pain than a person? Shame on you! And to all you people who just let your dogs run free, there needs to be a law. One where you can be fined big money for this. Not just a slap on the wrist. If I ever hit an animal and am able to find out who it belongs to, you better believe I will see you in court.
