We need to pay attention to how legislators vote

In the recent edition of the San Joaquin Farm Bureau magazine, there was an article regarding the Flood Protection Act of 2008. This act allows 40,000 acres of land to be taken from ag land, which could be combined with the Bay Delta Conservation Plan's proposed 100,000 acres to be axed from ag.

I do not like to put people in to political "boxes," but living in a state like California that is on a path to self-destruction, we have to stop ignoring the facts about where legislation is stemming from and start paying attention to who is passing what bills. In my lifetime I have been a Democrat twice and a Republican twice, so I feel that my allegiance has been pretty evenly distributed.

So how did our legislators vote on SB 5, which was dubbed the Flood Protection Act? Every YES vote was Democrat, and except for one lone Democrat voting against it, the rest of the NO votes were Republican. Under this bill, land will be acquired from "willing sellers" or eminent domain.

We have to start connecting the dots. We have to stop blindly voting for candidates of either party, then just going about our business while they destroy our economy and infringe further on our property rights and personal freedoms. As Albert Camus said, "The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants," and it sounds like this Flood Protection Act fits this quote to a T.
