Cynthia Neely never ceases to amaze me. Just when you think she couldn't move further left, she prints another outrageous propaganda piece.

It is not surprising she toes the Obama line, but Obama spouts such lies and misrepresentations for cynical political gain. Ms. Neely seems to actually believe such nonsense. Guess that's why Obama was re-elected.

Karl Marx sold this drivel to millions. Seems a lot of folks are still buying it! Hope you are not one of 'em.

Jerry Osgood

Mr A: The lies BO has told over the last six to ten years are well documented and have been pointed out here many many many times. Some are wort repeating others not. I have had my share of letters rejected, redacted, changed and removed. I am not a "right winger" any more than you are a "left winger" and it seems to me there are plenty if not more liberals who complain here than conservatives. OR maybe conservatives just have a broader spectrum of things that affect them they wish to complain about. "What disappoints me is that people aren't more skeptical and just accept what someone has just told them to be true." Exactly.

Could, may, should, worst case scenarios and opinions followed by accusations, assumptions, observations, analysis and statements are not proof...not evidence...not quantifiable... not reality..it is simply msn speculating. When the sequestration went through...ALL of her accusations and speculations fell flat on her face...they simply did NOT happen...WHAT DID HAPPEN???...BOBO and his fellow dunce Berry Kerry gave Egypt $250,000,000.00...to the Muslim Brotherhood. How many teachers is that? msn: "Cuts in non-defense spending could be as much as $670 million in 2013." Head Start and Seniors going hungry? Shame on you mrbo.

Mike, if you haven't noticed that LNS meticulously covers and publishes Galt news, especially the city council, planning commission, school districts and the plain old gossip. With the lack of the same meticulous coverage of the same issues concerning Lodi and the behind the scenes pandering and suspected corruption it seems that maybe they should opt to change their name to the Galt Sentinel? The only thing keeping them going is the great sports, gossip and the good ol' boy clan of people featured in the living and panorama section. Being a non partisan voter and politico I see the same commenter's from the far right seem to have preference with the big boys at the Sentinel. That's why it is one of the few newspapers that is afraid to charge for their content online that I can see. Maybe the Sentinel is rolling in the dough with their Tamarack Springs Water Co.? I'm still trying to figure out how that business ties into the Sentinel? Anyone know?

Mr. Maple, when Mr. Osgood makes statements such as "....Obama spouts such lies and misrepresentations for cynical political gain. ", what is there to debate?

As to potential "lies" that the president may have told, I've found over the years that depending on the context, depending on the editing (since we don't hear what people in D.C. say personally), might not be lies at all, just a sound clip wedged in between statements from the interviewer, or comentator, or whoever. I mentioned the Obama 2016 work specifically since it seems to mostly be people ragging on the President and supposedly claiming he has lied when what is happening is that the comentator, interviewee, etc. are simply asking questions, or making comments and then something the President has said is edited in.

What disappoints me is that people aren't more skeptical and just accept what someone has just told them to be true.

Also, the LNS seems to either have a policy of only accepting letters from writers from the right, regardless of what they have to say (many times like the letter above demonstrates), or by tacitly approving the bullying of potential letter writers who are more liberal. In the end, all you get is letters by people like Osgood. If this is the kind of newspaper the LNS wants to be (and according to Simon, it is a private company and so can do what ever they want) then I can assume their subscriptions will continue to fall because not everyone wants to read a far right wing conservative rag, and eventually, they will go out of business.

These letters and some commenters are giving me the assumption that the Sentinel is encouraging their own "Faux" news network with the same old right wing obstructionists who give their party a bad name with the tripe they constantly spew. And not to worry with Bush 3Jeb being a viable candidate for 2016. LOL

mrm: states "she failed to provide evidence or sources relative to the basis for her statements." but in re-reading Ms. Neely's article I see that she points to voting records, the Budget Control Act, Congress did adjourn. Ms. Neely goes on to cite articles by the San Francisco Chronicle and quote undersecretary Wright and John Boehner and her statements on Obama’s position are well documented. You may not agree with Ms. Neely’s conclusions but it would be incorrect to say that she offers no evidence or sources.

For those with room temperature IQ's...[sleeping]

President Pinnocchio's Treasury secretary comes up with the idea - then he- the President demands that the sequester be included in the 2011 Budget Control Act - then HE the President signs it into law...and yet it is the Republicans fault?

Maybe you mra: Have you the gumption for debate? mrsn in her column made many assertions and quoted others but she failed to provide evidence or sources relative to the basis for her statements. It was an attack piece and nothing else...she brought nothing to the table. In a two part response I refuted each of her claims and got no response...which is typical for a liberal of her caliber. Mr Osgood is as entitled to his paper space as anyone else including mrsn.
How do you rebut that?..." BO does not lie"...to which I would reply with a list of lies for you to refute.
mrb: Mr Osgood doesn't question me...you do. mrsn makes assertions without verifiable evidence. I did refute her statements and cited sources and evidence...no one has challenged my assertions nor picked up the debate...no even you...hmmm

I'm quite sure a source of Mr. Osgoods bi-weekly letters is material such as 'Obama 2016', as well as other radical right wing sources. As Mr. Barrow points out, Mr. Osgood doesn't really claim anything in this letter or the thousands of others the LNS demands he write, but relies heavily on statements like "Obama spouts such lies and misrepresentations for cynical political gain".

How does one rebut that? Again, Mr. Osgood is only writing for the many less informed, ill-informed, and just plain ignorant folks who feel the same way he does. I wonder what topic the LNS will have him mangle in Friday or Saturday's edition?

mrm: as an expert in debate can you explain where jerry has identified which of Ms Neely’s arguments he is responding to? Her original letter deals with sequestration and except for calling Obama a liar I don’t see where he has refuted anything she claims. Do not the rules of debate put the onerous, for identifying and refuting her claims, on Jerry. Surely with all your demands for proper debate you will hold Jerry to task for his lack of skills.

I believe Mr. Osgood speaks for himself and requires little help from anyone. I look forward to his slog coming on a bi-monthly basis. It is most interesting to read comments from anyone that would refute his writings, not to say he is always correct. He has a perfect right to write when ever he sees fit, and his less than interesting na sayers have the perfect write to either not read or respond. I look forward to Jerry`s points of view as they make for counter remarks from the left, right and who knows where. Keep em` coming Jerry since you never seem to cease to amaze Mr.Lucas, Adams, and Maple, you keep them on their toes, though their points of view are rather flat footed.

mrl: nothing amazes me...not from the liberal pageants who post here. I highly doubt that one of you knows the process of refutation. Mr Coleman has and does present solid opinions and evidence in his posts. You have the same rights and can refute his claims with your own evidence at any time...or you can make silly noises. Yourself and many others have been challenged to debate the subject of your or anyone else's choice...not one has taken the challenge
    The gauntlet lies there still.

You can't really blame Jerry Osgood. He's only witing what someone wants him to say. A normal stable adult couldn't write this kind of stuff and to maintain the quota the LNS puts on him, he's desparate to get anything in to the editor.

He has been a very useful tool for the right. Unfortunately for the right, only those already on the right believe anything he says is true. His weekly offerings have no effect on the more intellectual left

Jerry Osgood never ceases to amaze me. He never refutes a single argument that Ms Neely makes but loves to essentially call her names. Mr Osgood is a practitioner of the Republican style of debate.
