Letter: Inappropriate for former mayor to write ‘rubbish’

After being out of town for a few days, I got home and read the past News-Sentinel editions that I had missed. There it was, a letter to the editor from ex-mayor David Hinchman: “City officials say the darndest things,” Dec. 10. With great anticipation I read the letter. What was the ex-mayor really trying to say? What was its purpose? Still don’t know.

I do feel it was very inappropriate for a once respected ex-mayor to write such rubbish even if he had been “a fly on the wall” — which he wasn’t.

Then his last little dig at the city about leaf pickup after all the leaves were down was the last straw. As ex-mayor and a reader of the News-Sentinel, Mr. Hinchman should know the city publishes the leaf pickup schedule weeks in advance with no control over Mother Nature.

Fortunately for all of us, this was a short leaf season. As the ex-Public Works director, if I had had a choice of following the already-printed schedule or upsetting a few eccentrics, I know what I would have done. Sorry, Mr. Hinchman.

City of Lodi, keep up the good work!

Jack Ronsko

Retired Public Works director

City of Lodi
