Letter: Jesus should be what makes church unique

I noticed the News-Sentinel Religion Page 8 for Aug. 23. I feel compelled to say something about the four local church pew warmers who voiced their infinite wisdom about what they think makes First Baptist Church in Lodi unique.

And among all the reasons given, there was not any mention at all, not one word to the effect of loving or worshipping God and his son Jesus, let alone obeying his precepts. Not one word!

This is typical of today’s Christian churches! In other words, keep the authority and sovereignty of God out of them. So why do people attend church in Lodi? (Duh, I guess I go for the socializing and fun, duh. Who is God? Duh. What does He have to do with anything? Duh!)

After all, how dare we offend anybody with the true Gospel!

John Cooper

    Sorry to the very sincere people who came to answer question about the baptist church. I would be the very offend by the mr Cooper if I was subject of this his letter.

    Seem that no people will go to the church if not the belief in Jesus. For the mr Cooper to say that not why they go is very of the offending. Many people go to the church or the temple for first reason - to worship. But the church or temple also have a culture that many like - if no like culture of church or temple - that is the other of the people go there too - then best to find other place.

    Culture unite people of same mind who pray to gods or God or Jesus. They are people who wish to celebrate they god with people like them selves. Like one lady say - she go for fellowship - unite with people with same belief.

    And so it was written from above;

    "So why do people attend church in Lodi? (Duh,
    I guess I go for the socializing and fun, duh.

    Who is God? Duh. What does He have to do with anything? Duh!)"

    So articulate, so profound. Soon to be preserved in the LNS archives till the end of...

    Is Mr Cooper trying to suggest that 1st Baptist is the only Church invested with the spirit of Christ or does he just not understand the meaning of the word "unique"?
