On behalf of Lodi Support Our Troops, we would like to thank everyone who came to the “Our Troops Our Heroes” fundraiser event at the Van Ruiten Winery on July 14. We were honored to have in attendance veterans and United States Marine Lance Cpl. Jordan Miller home on leave to pick the raffle number winners.

A good time was had by all; winetasting by the Van Ruiten Winery, cheese by Cheese Central, foccacia bread by The Dancing Fox, The Stadium Sports Bar barbecuing sausage from The Butcher Shoppe, and cupcakes by Frosted Flour. We also enjoyed the sounds of the Stephanie D Trio band.

We would like to thank the Van Ruiten family for hosting the event, and their winetasting manager, Janice Lucas — she is the best!

We had raffle baskets, a silent and live auction by auctioneer Joe Gates, an Ultimate Wine Collection and a TV raffle. We raised $14,750! That is enough to pay for approximately 1,340 care packages to our troops in the Middle East this Christmas. Last year we sent approximately 2,250, and our goal is to do the same.

Thank you to all our local businesses who donated and made this possible.

The fundraising continues. Please look to www.lodisupportourtroops.com and Facebook for upcoming events. If you have names of soldiers who you would like to be included, go to our website and input their names or platoon.

Thank you to our troops for maintaining our freedom and keeping us safe.
