Graffiti at American Legion Park dishonors veterans and soldiers

First, someone cut the eagle’s head off of the American Legion Park fountain. People talked about this, but no one worked together to replace the head. When an artist finally replaced it, but with a different head, all they talked about was how odd it looked.

Now there was a series of articles written by a Lodi News-Sentinel staff writer who talked about graffiti showing up on a Monday morning on the fountain, park sidewalks, signs and bathroom. Nick Romero from the Lodi Graffiti Abatement program cleaned up Legion Park. Late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, despite police drive-bys, the park was tagged again. Lodi police said this graffiti was spread at the American Legion Park by one gang intruding on another gangs territory, which could bring violence.

Both of these gangs who are disrespecting American Legion Park are dishonoring this symbol of their grandparents, fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers who served in our country’s armed services. This Legion Park is a symbol to honor veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and current conflicts. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice — their very lives — so we have the freedoms we enjoy today.

Instead of dishonoring these individuals with graffiti and obscenities, these gangs should be making sure this area is kept clean. They might even want to plant flowers or roses for their favorite relative who died or served, in honor of their memory.

Not only do you have assume they have honor, you have to assume too that they read the paper. I live a few blocks from the park and take my son there, and drive by every morning taking him to school. It bothers him, as an 8 year old, that the park is vandalized. I will never understand how some 14, 16 year old punks think they own everything. That they get to rule the streets, deface property, etc. The law isn't tough enough of them. I know, people will say our jails are full and it's not a crime per se but it is. You start taking the taggers off the streets, and your taking gang bangers off the streets. We pay so much to the city you think they could have say, one cop per park that patrols at night, or cameras that they cant get to. If you don't stop it now, Lodi will become Stockton. [sad]

You are assuming that these punks that do this have honor. The fact that they do things in the dark of night shows how gutless these wanna be tough guys are
