Over the past weekend, the Lodi Legion senior baseball team competed in the district tournament at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi. The team battled its way into the championship game, and although coming up on the losing side, represented Lodi well throughout the tournament and season.

As their coach, I want to express how proud I am of all of the players and coaches. They quietly competed against some of the best teams in Northern California and recently placed second out of 12 teams in the tough El Dorado Hills Vipers tournament at Sacramento State University.

Thank you to players Alec Fromm, Connor Daley, Blake Harrison, T.J. Ortiz, BJ Bailon, Greg Herzfeldt, Josh Quesada, Matt Stanley, Joey Armstrong, Chad Holley, Grant Hennecke, Ryan Pudwell, Ray Harbin, Nick Langworthy, Corbin Martin, Brendan Burke, Jon Haley, Greg Lauchland and Sean Tully, for always working hard and playing the game with class.

Also, thanks to George "Chick" Cecchetti, Mike Matlock, Joe Bailon and Matt Clark for helping coach.

There is nothing like playing for your town and representing it well. Thank you to the men above for making this summer special and always asking, "What can I do to help my team?"

So, now there is a "double standard", one for public figures and one for the average citizen? More liberal hogwash.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
