What an insult! I have subscribed to the Lodi News-Sentinel for more than 18 years in an effort to help keep our Sentinel from becoming a thing of the past. Like everyone else, I can get my news online or on my smart phone. But I don’t want to lose the delight of opening up my door in the morning and having my newspaper with my cup of coffee, savoring every satisfying moment of knowing I am doing good for my community newspaper.

My family and I are Catholic and proud of it! We attend St. Anne’s Catholic Church, which has more than 4,000 registered parishioners. My children also attend St. Anne’s Catholic School and St. Mary’s High School.

I understand that the Lodi News-Sentinel is going to report sports for Lodi High School and Tokay High School. We have many friends who attend those schools and we support them, too. But I am tired of opening up the sports page only to see Galt schools’ sports get front-page pictures and write-ups! Is it because Galt only has a Wednesday paper that the Sentinel feels obliged to support their schools’ sports? What about the 120 Lodi-area students who attend St. Mary’s High School?

St. Mary’s sports programs would provide you with almost a story a day. These are the same kids who also support their community with feeding the homeless and disadvantaged at the Salvation Army Dining Hall, provide cookies to the elderly, grow vegetables for food shelters, and alter serve, just to name a few things. These students’ families are business owners, farmers and professionals who create commerce and enterprise for Lodi.

Two weeks ago there was a picture of a Tokay soccer player with a glimmer of his St. Mary’s opponent in the background. Should we be satisfied with that coverage? I think not! Maybe all of the St. Mary’s families should unsubscribe to the Lodi News-Sentinel and just start getting The Stockton Record? At least I could still have my paper and coffee in the morning.

I appreciate Abbie Mulbarger being acknowledged as a Lodi resident playing for St. Mary's in the article about the Lodi High tennis team. And good job, Macy Barajas!!!

Many more than 120 students are affected. They have extended families---grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins---besides friends who would love to read about their accomplishments in the Sentinel. I appreciate the editor's thoughtful response and his encouragement to us to write our own news. I do hope that next year, with the new league which will include St. Mary's, more of all the successes of students from Lodi will be celebrated.

Jamie, The LNS is Galt's daily paper. It has a circulation here that warrants carriers with paper routes. I get my Lodi News Sentinel off of my driveway every morning, just like the people in Stockton who get the Stockton Record. The Stockton Record covers St. Mary's sports. It's worth it to them to put a reporter in charge of coverage, because they have a lot more than 120 local students in attendance.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
