A lot has been said about the proposed rate increases for our water. I’m certain that most people would agree that it is not necessary at this time. I also understand that the increases would be helpful for the payoff of the new water plant.

Here’s my point. The plant was built to cover future needs for all the new housing that isn’t being built. Therefore, the citizens have to pick up the tab. That, to me, is arrogance at it’s best.

We either have or will have meters installed. I fully understand the need for water conservation. Since we are each paying for the meters, they will become our property once paid off. Correct? Is there a guarantee that comes with the meter? If it breaks down, do we have to pay for a new one? I’m certain that “the city” already has all of its meters installed. We need to help “the city” conserve our water.

Finally, I’d like to address water quality. Frankly, it stinks. No, really, it stinks! Not everyone can afford bottled water. We have a right to have our water taste good and not smell!

If “the city” wants more money, I (we) insist that it provide a better product!
