Letter: Obama should be assisting jailed U.S. Marine in Mexico

As I sit here watching the news and see where a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, who has recently returned from combat missions, has been put in a Mexican jail because he missed the turn to go to the U.S. He accidentally made a wrong turn and ended up in Mexico. He has been there for months now.

On the same news report, I learned that some 3,000 or 4,000 illegal immigrants come into America daily, and our president has instructed the Border Patrol that if they have no criminal record, they are to be released in the United States.

In the meantime our sergeant has been put in one of the dirtiest prisons on the face of the Earth. He has also been threatened with sexual abuse by the guards.

Where is our president? What in the heck is our government doing? Our president should have handled this immediately.

This is another case of lack of respect of our country and mainly our president. He certainly has no respect for his job, his office, his country or the people of America, and certainly not our Constitution.

Please substantiate your absurd comment Mike.

It's easy for me to substantiate the fact that you haven't the slightest idea what you are talking about by simply asking you to provide 1 example of something we have reported that is "innuendo, rumor, or outright lies."

    YOU CAN'T![angry]

Joanne: I was watching "1 PM Central Standard Time" I think it was, last week and veteran newsmen were keen to say that before they would put anything out they did not personally witness, they waited for a 2nd confirmation. Illigetimate "news sources" like infowars and other conspiratorial websites don't even bother with a confirmation before they post information. Which is why it is quickly debunked by the average viewer/listener/reader.

Sure, the big networks run stories that might have been posted by sensational websites earlier, but this does not give infowars and other jokers any legitimacy.
Most of the junk "news" that is reported by infowars is innuendo, rumor, or outright lies. If you look at their stories, they are written by only 1 or 2 or 3 people, or are written by someone from what seems to be a credible source, but when you check into it, it's just one person.

Some stories are picked up by the big networks and there are those who then claim that this person worked for let's say, the New York Times. Again, if you check, and I know you do, you find out the individual in question has had some stories picked up by the NYT, but they are not currently or ever employed by the NYT, they just wrote an article that the NYT published. It's no different from someone writing a letter to the editor that the NYT publishes. You can't claim it's information was factual or true or that you work for the NYT.

I cannot understand why otherwise intelligent people believe the goofiness that appears on conspiratorial websites and think it's true.

let it be noted that the 45 cal was loaded and in the door pocket and the shotgun loaded and on the front seat. Hardly legal even if registered, plus the SGT was suffering from PTSD, not a good candidate to have loaded firearms at easy reach while driving a vehicle

Any number...how many can Infowars produce? I'm sure they have correspondents, including YOU, all over the country that can take videos of airports and splice in a copy of illegals boarding or deplaning at any airport in the country.

After all, isn't THAT how they produce all those youtubes?

And in case you didn't watch your own video reference, it concerns flying immigrants to BOSTON - not "all over the country."

The unauthorized crossing of the U.S.-Mexico Border by Mexican Government personnel is called an incursion not an invitation Ms. Bobin.[sleeping]

Gil Kerlikowske, commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a letter to Rep. Duncan Hunter there have been about 152 instances, involving a total of 525 armed Mexican military or law enforcement, who have been documented encroaching on the U.S. side of the border since Jan. 1, 2004.

Most likely because they are here at the invitation of US law enforcement?

I notice that only Conspiracy Theory websites like Breitbart and Infowars are carrying these stories.

Don't tell me - THEY SCOOPED the stories?

Why doesn't Infowars report extensively on all of the corrupt US Border Patrol agents operating illegal schemes on the border? They MIGHT actually have a story there!

    [thumbup], Mr. Barrow.

The news about "unaccompanied minors" and mostly women with children being shuffled from TX to AZ has been in the news for weeks.

Besides, Sam West was claiming in his letter that the news report (from FOX News, no doubt) said 3000-4000 illegals were coming across the border DAILY and being released.

All of this due to US policy of the Bush and Reagan years in Central America. Good old Col. North should still be in prison for his part.

Pointing out an [offtopic] comment is not a violation, Mr. Liebich.

I believe it was YOU who had your [offtopic] comment deleted from another thread while all the replies pointing it out were NOT.

Did it ever occur to you that your own comment is off topic and should "never" have been posted Ms. Bobin?

p.s. A "riveting, indepth bit of nonsense" that has now been picked up by every major news organization in the country.[lol]

Sorry if your comprehension ability is lacking but there are no Mexican prisoners to release in a trade for the Marine so your previous statement is nonsensical. Also your link to the CNN story about the refugees showing up at the southern border is dated June 10th and the infowars story you provided is dated June 18th so it is also incorrect that infowars "broke the story" Are you having a hard time keeping your conspiracies straight?

Sgt. Tahmooressi is potentially facing 6 to 21 years in a Mexican prison for having three lawfully registered guns at a border checkpoint he didn't even wish to cross.

Conversely, at least 500 armed Mexican military and police personnel have crossed our border illegally in the last decade according to DHS. Not one of these Mexican nationals have spent their days mired in the US legal system or stuck in jail on gun charges, as is the case for US Marine Sgt. Tahmooressi.

Why do they get a pat on the head and a free pass?

Mr. Liebich wrote: "First, the 12 prisoners released by the Obama Administration were not Afghan. They were held in a US detention facility in Afghanistan. A Frenchman, a Kuwaiti and 10 Pakistani prisoners sent back to their respective home countries HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MEXICO."

So, finally, Liebich, you ADMIT that you are inserting an [offtopic] comment into a letter where it shouldn't be?

Your comment should NEVER have been posted and should now be deleted if Mr. Birch is doing his job and following the RULES of this forum.

Also, loved your "youtube" Infowars video in which the person being interviewed, ostensibly by an Infowars person answered "I don't know" AT LEAST 20 times during that riveting, indepth bit of nonsense - much like everything else on Infowars.

Perhaps you should widen your own perspective.

Did you know that armed Mexican military and police routinely cross the US border Treacy Elliott? Perhaps you should ask yourself why these incursions are going unpunished despite the fact that they clearly violate U.S. law?

Your comment makes absoloutely no sense Mr. Barrow.

First, the 12 prisoners released by the Obama Administration were not Afghan. They were held in a US detention facility in Afghanistan. A Frenchman, a Kuwaiti and 10 Pakistani prisoners sent back to their respective home countries has nothing to do with Mexico.

    Second, Infowars broke the story...*AGAIN!*

The McAllen,Texas story has now been picked up by dozens of other media outlets including CNN, CBS and the Huffington Post.

    Apparently they all bought it.[lol]

The Mexican Government will release the Marine after they put him on trial for having weapons and ammunition that are considered illegal in Mexico. If you stupid enough to be near the border, carrying weapons (45 auto and shotgun) with ammunition, and th get lost, admits to having illegal weapons at the border crossing, what should they expect. A free pass? A pat on the head and go on their way. The fact that he is a Marine has no bearing on this situation. I own firearms and they are never in my vehicle unless I'm going to or from the shooting range. And when they are not in transit, they are locked away safely. What would you want our government to do in the same situation?

The Marine Sgt. will be released as soon as Mexico can figure out what we have that they want, OK free access to boarder crossing, drivers licences, health care, and money for nothing and your housing for free for a start. No doubt there will be more. If the Sgt. is not released within 24 hours, anybody that looks like an illegal immigrant will be turned over to ICE, no doubt a deal will be made and the Sgt. will be on this side of the border and purchase a top of the line GPS.

If Team Obama can release 12 more terrorist detainees from an Afghan prison why is Team Obama unable or unwilling to see that Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi is released? Perhaps they have been too busy purchasing bus tickets for illegal immigrants.
