Letter: National parks should be closed to everyone during federal government shutdown

Last week, veterans from all over were blocked from the National Mall in the name of the government shutdown. They went into the park anyway, and the rangers there were respectful to them, but this was an unnecessary closure meant to inflict the most pain on the citizenry.

This week, hundreds of illegal immigrants were allowed in for a rally, with Nancy Pelosi publicly thanking the president for opening the park to them while other Americans stood outside the barricades in another section taking pictures of the park.

This is shameful. Pelosi and Obama are totally welcoming to the illegal immigrants while blocking the American public. One photographer said they openly rallied despite their illegal status, climbed all over the statues, etc.

This week, the Defense Department said it could not cover the funerals and family transport for several victims of the war in Afghanistan. These funds were promised to these people who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. By request, a private foundation has picked up the tab for now. Obama could have solved this problem immediately with the stroke of a pen.

What a shame when we care more about illegal immigrants than our own people.

By the way, the federal golf courses are being kept open for use during this shutdown of national parks and monuments.

OK, I have read this letter numerous times and do not see where the writer said anything about the fact that the monuments should be closed to everyone. Who at the Lodinews twisted her words? I agree with this writer and it is an absolute atrocity what is going on in our government. However the writer will be glad to know that over the weekend many of the Barrycades were picked up and moved over to the White House. Hundreds of citizens stormed past the Barrycades at the Lincoln Memorial. Since when do the American people need permission from the government to visit these open air monuments? Shame, shame shame..
