Letter: Bickering between parties must stop

Washington is in chaos, disruption and turmoil. Both sides are name-calling, finger-pointing and blaming each other for the problems. The public is taking sides and assigning blame or praise.

For myself, I am disgusted and fed up with everybody in Washington. I feel that those who praise “Obamanation” and his minions probably have pictures of Marx, Lenin and Chavez alongside him on their walls. Those who side with the Republicans can choose from any past politician who has put their own gain and welfare ahead of the American people.

We are giving billions upon billions of dollars to nations and organizations who want to destroy us. We are giving money and military aid to the very people we fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who are still killing our troops. Our young people who fought for our country and gave bits and pieces of their bodies and minds are being ignored. Senior citizens who helped contribute to build this nation are being squeezed economically while certain people are enjoying a free ride and have contributed nothing.

The blame can’t be put on one person, party or group. Our nation began its long, slow slide into loss of our constitutional and civil rights over 60 years ago. Lately it has become an avalanche. Every despot in history began with the support of the people. Let us recognize what is happening to our country.

Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I say those who remember the past and still repeat it deserve what they get. Walt Kelly, in his comic strip Pogo, said, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”
