Letter: We should enforce the immigration laws we already have

With the hot topic of immigration in the news, I thought I would share my solution.

Since the last time I checked, illegal immigration, is well, Illegal. You either come into this country the right way, or not at all. Those who come here illegally are, in my opinion, nothing more than squatters. They use resources and space that should go to those who are born here, or are here legally. Entering illegally makes a mockery of those that come to this country the right way. Does any other country allow unfettered access? I don’t know of any.

As far as those coming here and providing cheap labor, how about moving the able bodied public assistance recipients to those jobs that are presently occupied by illegal immigrants? Even those with less than total disabilities can do something. No work, no public assistance.

The term “immigration reform” has been bandied about with increasing frequency. Just what this term means depends on what side of the political spectrum one leans on. We don’t need immigration reform, just enforce the laws already on the books.

I agree that we should be enforcing the immigration laws that are already on the books, but the fact is that we have somewhere around 10 million (estimates vary) undocumented immigrants already here, and that is a major consideration within the immigration reform debate. We do need reform and we do need enforcement as well.
