You may have noticed your local firefighters wearing pink uniform shirts for all of October and asked yourself, “What are they doing?”

The members of the Lodi Fire Department took part in a “Go Pink” campaign and wore the pink shirts in support of those who have breast cancer and the survivors that beat it. During the month of October we sold pink T-shirts and accepted cash donations in an effort to raise funds for breast cancer awareness, research and treatment.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to raise $5,000, which will be donated to the Geweke Caring For Women Foundation. This is a local nonprofit that guarantees that all monies raised will stay in San Joaquin County.

We are fortunate to have such great support in the city of Lodi, and we thank each and every one of you for helping us exceed our fundraising goal.

A very special thank you is in order for two companies who partnered with us and by virtue allowed us to substantially increase the amount of money we raised — Embroidery Works of Lodi and Chili’s Grill and Bar. Both businesses went over and above in supporting our efforts and we are extremely appreciative.

On behalf of the firefighters who so proudly serve you, I say thank you.

Brad Doell
