There are black marker "X"s drawn on the faces of the portraits of two Muslim men on my living room wall. One is the 9/11 suicide bomber Mohammed Atta. The other is of a person who cannot take his wife on a visit to a Muslim country because she would be required to wear the full-covering garment required of the wife of a Muslim man.
An attempt is being made to have the ground around the Twin Towers site in lower Manhattan declared a national monument. This would prevent the construction of a large size Muslim mosque, which survivors of the 9/11 victims feel is an affront to America and an insult to the memories of family and friends who died there in the Twin Towers.
It will be instructive to see how much cooperation comes from the White House in their behalf. If the treatment of Israel by President Obama personally, and by his administration representatives, is any indicator, the mosque will be allowed to rise from the ashes of the World Trade Center towers.
