Let’s help Traveler get well and find a home

Posted

On Sunday, June 9, a small dog wandered into our yard. Normally we would just shoo a dog away but something made us check her out. She was so badly injured due to abuse and neglect but we were able to get her to trust us.

She was only able to walk on three legs, her tail was badly injured, there was a twist tie around a couple of her toes, she had a bloody abdomen area and she was skinny and weak.

I tried calling the Humane Society, the Police Department and a local veterianarian but we were unable to get any help or advice. We made her a comfy bed, sat with her and got her to drink and eat a little. We then tried to explain to our two grandsons why someone would do this to her. Our 6-year-old grandson decided he wanted to name her, so we said that would be fine, but we would not be able to keep her because she was so badly injured. He named her “Traveler” because she traveled so far to find our house so we could help her — brought tears to all our eyes.

We took her to the pound on Monday — of course she had no tag or microchip. Her injuries were so severe that they took her to Oakwood Veterinary to see if she could even be saved. Tuesday morning I got a call from Lodi Animal Shelter saying PALS agreed to take over her care (which will be over $1,000).

I wish I was in a position to cover the cost for her, but cannot. We did donate $100 towards her care, and I am asking that if anyone could possibly help, it would be so appreciated. You could send any donation to PALS in care of “Traveler.” It would be so appreciated. This little pup deserves a second chance to fine a forever home and be loved. She is a fighter and wants to live and have someone to love.
