Letter: Thoughts on the Lodi City Council’s decisions

I have a few thoughts I would like to share on the Lodi City Council.

Lights for Downtown Lodi have been an expensive pain in the neck. How are you going to protect those outlets and lights? You aren’t. $225,700 just to repair? You need to think about what you’re doing. If you leave those lights and plugs exposed, they’re going to be destroyed by people with nothing better to do. I suggest fencing off Downtown and charging for admission so people all over the world can visit. You won’t have to worry about the cost to repair those plugs. This will save a lot of taxpayer money.

Now the Lodi City Council is sticking to their guns on rate increases. Did I think it would be any different? No, I did not. Again there is no way you can get half of the population of Lodi to send in a letter of opposition to this rate increase to the City Clerk. This is a slick move by our city council to push through any rate increases.

What do the citizens of Lodi have to do to stop the flow of money coming out of their pockets, and to make it fair to the citizens of Lodi? I know it’s nice to spend other people’s money, but there are certainly a lot of people who cannot afford the cost.

This isn’t the only increase in costs we deal with. We have county taxes, state taxes and more agencies than you can count, and each one wants to increase cost. Now go to the federal government. I hope you didn’t notice how many increases they have put on us.

Lastly, what great articles on city council perks. You brought this to light, letting the citizens of Lodi know what is going on. City council members dictate their own benefits behind closed doors, raise utility rates and there is no way to stop them. This is a part-time job without benefits, and trying to keep their hands out of the cookie jar is a full-time job.
