Letter: Quotes were said to reveal truth, not gain friends

Why is it that whenever someone quotes the Bible accurately, people get all up in arms about it? The most recent examples are the comments of Phil Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” and Pastor Nolton.

The word of God is the final authority, no matter whether people like it or not. Sadly, many people don’t like what God’s word says, or agree with it, but that’s their prerogative.

Jesus said, “Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Yes, Mr. Liebich - that was a little different, eh?

As one of the few women who comment in this forum, I'm constantly being attacked, told I'm a liar, and worse - while men with the same opinions as myself are given a pass and never refuted. Just goes to show what cowards you right-wingers are.

Keep up the good work. I love it.

Mr. Edwardo WATERS: Do you really take the time to nick-pick every statement I make?

I'm just shocked that a person such as you with right wing opinions is godless. That totally goes against the right wing agenda.

But congratulations on being a somewhat "free-thinker."

Boben: Your wrong concerning yelling "Fire" in a theater, if it is indeed on fire. Since there are so many religions, I have no idea from which to choose, therefore I find I don`t need any to make up my mind. Carl Sagan does his best as to how this all started, billions, not thousands of years ago. All of the amendments are open to interpretation.

Twisting "The word of God is the final authority, no matter whether people like it or not. Sadly, many people don’t like what God’s word says, or agree with it, but that’s their prerogative" into "Ms. Flory is stating is that I MUST ADHERE TO GOD'S WORD" and "SHE is impinging on MY first amendment right to freedom of religion" is utterly absurd.

As Ms. Flory clearly stated, it's your "prerogative" not to listen to her.[sleeping]

    Andrew
Congratulations for displaying your confusion about the 1st amendment by castigating Ms Bobin exercising her 1st amendment rights. 1st amendment rights, or speaking your mind if you will, usually have as their goal an opportunity to express an opinion and see if there is sufficient agreement or disagreement or if anybody cares at all. So Ms Bobin challenged the authors statements as is her right under the LNS rules (the US constitution keeps her from going to jail for it) and I might add that I too agree with Ms Bobins criticisms of this letter. So she spoke her mind and found agreement. Thats the ultimate achievmant of free speech.

Now you say to Ms Bobin "The 1st amendment does NOT mean that YOUR personal opinions are allowed to go unchallenged or refuted." What a redundant statement. Especially in the fact that you offer no rebuttal to her statement only that you express a rebuttal could be possible. That is in fact what Ms Bobin gave the LTE author: rebuttal. I can assure you there is no one more aware that her statements can be challenged than Ms Bobin. However she is seldom refuted. Of course you have mostly experienced the "who cares" in exercising your 1st amendment rights.

I don't have the inability to understand the first amendment, Mr. Liebich. What would make you say something that is obviously untrue?

Like the old adage - the first amendment does not allow someone to yell "FIRE" in a theater. It has also been ruled that making terrorist threats is also against the law.

Just because YOU think that there have been no challenges to the right of free speech and YOU do not have the ability to recognize that, don't blame others.

What Ms. Flory is stating is that I MUST ADHERE TO GOD'S WORD. She can say it all she likes, all day long, all year long.

What the first amendment DOESN'T mean is that I have to listen to her or NOT criticize someone who thinks everyone else should think like a religious zealot. SHE is impinging on MY first amendment right to freedom of religion.

The Bible (including the words of Jesus) support slavery and prohibit interracial marriage, Ms. Flory. Do you stand with your "final authority" on those points of bigotry as well?

Please refrain from blaming others for your own inability to understand the 1st amendment. The 1st amendment does NOT mean that YOUR personal opinions are allowed to go unchallenged or refuted.

I invite people that don`t have a clue as to what they are talking about, and call others ignorant hatemongers, read books by Carl Sagans` "Cosmos". No names are called out in hate, and is a factual way the Cosmos was developed billions of years ago. Since no one really knows what happened a couple of thousands of years ago. I do not adhere to different versions coming from from people that don`t know themselves, I get by very well without versions of what someone thinks, and find it difficult for people to sit and listen to someone rant and rave for an hour, let along stay awake.

One problem, Ms. Flory - Frank Nolton DIDN'T quote the Bible. He just whined about the unfairness of so-called retaliation against bigots.

Why is it that super-religious people just cannot keep their super-religiousity to themselves? They think it is somewhere written in our Constitution that they HAVE TO impose their views on others.

It's because Phil Roberts and Pastor Norton don't have a clue what their talking about. They are simply ignorant hatemongers and most people can see that. Sorry Lana can't and more sorry that the LNS chose to display this attempt to push ones closed minded beliefs onto others.
