On Sunday, Feb. 9, the Central Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, Central Valley Preparatory Orchestra and the Lodi Youth Chorale performed in the Charlene Powers Lange Performing Arts Theatre at Hutchins Street Square.

Thank you to the Lodi community, the city of Lodi and the Lodi Arts Commission for making this great venue available, and for the grant generously provided by the Lodi Arts Commission. Conductor Thomas Derthick commented during the performance that the Charlene Powers Lange Performing Arts Theatre is the “hidden gem in the Valley,” superior to both the Gallo Theater in Modesto and the Mondovi Theatre in Davis for musicians and audience alike.

With decreased funding for both instrumental and vocal music in our public schools, the Central Valley Youth Symphony, Preparatory Orchestra and Lodi Youth Chorale provide an opportunity for our young musicians to study, learn, grow in their art and perform for appreciative audiences in our local communities. As these young musicians progress from grade school, through middle school and high school, and on to college and their future careers, they have you to thank for making performing arts possible in our local community.

Thanks also to conductor Thomas Derthick, conductor Shane Kalbach, director Robert Tan and all the volunteers who support these great programs. Lodi, thank you again for giving these young people the opportunity to perform in such a wonderful venue, and thank you again to the Lodi Arts Commission for your continued support.
