There are a lot of people in Lodi that do amazing things. Some we hear about and some are simply going along without anyone knowing.
For the last few years, one of our local businesses has given quietly day after day. They are responsible for thousands of meals provided to the poorest among us. It is easy to believe that, with food stamps and other programs, hunger does not exist in our town, but the truth is that it does. It is also clear that as our economy has suffered, the need and the problems have grown. This business has provided food that has gone to the homeless, to families that could not make their money stretch until payday, to the sick and the elderly in our local hotels that could not make it to feedings at the Salvation Army, and to children whose parents have spent their money on addictions rather than on food.
On behalf of those that have received meals and the organizations that have been able to pass the food out, I want to thank the Phillips family for everything they have been doing while operating one of Lodi's best restaurants on Church Street.
Thank you sincerely on behalf of recipients serviced by the Unity & Community Projects.
