The Lodi News-Sentinel published a compilation of special insights and advice from local leaders to 2013 graduates titled “Words to Live By.” It was a good editorial — thank you.

All the commencement columns challenged the graduates to seek the greater good and play fair while “doing their own thing.” All the columns spoke to hard work and education as the means to success and some credited family and friends as prime influences in the process. All the columns were good, but one stood out as loving, caring wise counsel in this uniquely troubled time — Annette Murdaca’s, “Embrace lessons of faith and courage.” Her thoughtful insights and words to live by were practical, from the heart, true and honest. Her words would strengthen and encourage any young heart, and have I am sure. Thanks for publishing her speech.

My dad, while not a man of letters, understood the power of words and used to say, “Our choice of words reveals the condition of our soul and is the prime indicator of our understanding of God’s world and will for us.”

May God bless all our graduates, and may all our graduates recognize it.
