This letter is in regards to teachers receive their pay and days back. Classified employees would like to be made whole again as well. Classified employees are the ones who clean the sardine-packed classrooms, paint when there’s graffiti, go in the middle of the night to prepare broken windows, and mow the fields so children have a safe place to play for recess or practice their sports.

It’s my understanding that Proposition 30 is for the classrooms. That is why classified employees worked very hard to get it passed. It’s to help everyone. Classified is literally half the staff. We are proud and hard-working, and have also used our own monies to help a classroom. (Prop. 30 allots 10 percent for teachers using monies for classrooms).

I really don’t understand why everyone in the state has been made whole again except this district — $53 million in reserves, $3 billion from Gov. Jerry Brown. People in the district office are receiving $455 a month raises. I especially don’t understand why the district doesn’t want to talk or negotiate with either the Lodi Education Association or California School Employees Association. When I voted for George Neely, Ron Heberle, Ruth Davis and Bonnie Cassel to be on the school board, I though it would be different. I voted for what they were campaigning for — a better district. They’ve had a year and this year pending to prove me wrong.

We let the district “borrow” from the LEA and CSEA the last two years, and now it’s time to return what was borrowed. The district led us to believe the LEA and CSEA had a guaranteed two-year warranty. It’s no different when you have work done on your house. You negotiate, sign a contract, have the work done satisfactorily and a two-year warranty is given.
