Student volunteers made Evening at the Library successful
The 12th annual Evening at the Library — a Celebration of the Art of Storytelling was held Sept. 29. This memorable evening was a a fundraising activity to finish renovation of the Lodi Library.
The event hosted by the Library Foundation Board could not happen without lots of help moving furniture, setting up dining areas and decorating the library. As in past years as chairperson, I requested student help from various high schools.
Thursday evening, Lodi High Interact Club came to help set things up. Saturday evening, students from Teen Lead — Lodi Youth Commission were on hand to serve the meal, with dignity and a smile for everyone. Sunday morning, students from McNair High School Key Club were at the library at 9 a.m. to clean up so the library could open to the public on time.
Every year that the dinner takes place, I am more impressed with the youths of our community. They come with smiles and a willingness to help in any way they are asked. They are responsible, energetic and loads of fun! Without the enthusiasm these young people generate, the dinner would not happen.
Thank you to each and every student who volunteered to make this annual event a success!
Helen R. Gross
Board member and dinner chairwoman
