Letter: Frustrated with liberal politics
Posted: December 05, 2016

A reader recently made four points in which I’d like to comment. First, she stated that what has taken place since Trump’s election are protests, not riots. Portland police declared that “protest” as a riot and it’s happened in other Democratic party strongholds. If you call what’s happening protests and not riots then there really is no use debating you.

Letter: LUSD compensation doesn’t reflect teacher contributions
Posted: December 05, 2016

Stockton. Elk Grove. Manteca. Even tiny Lammersville. These are just some of the neighboring districts that offer higher teacher salaries than Lodi Unified. If the superior benefits that most districts offer are also considered, it is difficult to find a local district whose teachers are not better compensated than those in LUSD. However, Lodi teachers have been working without a contract since July 1 and the district has yet to bring a reasonable offer to the table.

Letter: Be thankful for our bountiful nation
Posted: November 29, 2016

I am thanking God for His nature, as I walked by the Sutter Buttes Mountains. Over head flew a flock of geese in a V formation going south. Later on the sun set in the west, into a layer of clouds made purple in color. These beautiful sunsets are for all of us to enjoy.

Letter: Taking issue with educational system
Posted: November 23, 2016

It's been so refreshing to witness the mature and classy manner in which the progressives have accepted the rule of law in the result of this election unlike those terrible race riots in the aftermath of Obama's elections in 2008 and ’12.

Letter: What we should fear after election
Posted: November 22, 2016

Once again the folks were treated to their daily dose of fear and loathing in America: (“Dissenters decry Trump, fear future”, Nov. 13, 2016). Sad people throughout the country are marching and whining about the election results. Indeed, I feel their pain and stand with those protesters fearing the future. My fear, however, is different from theirs. Those protesters fear for a Trump presidency and I fear for the causes of their fear, namely, the educators and purveyors of our information.

Letter: What has 2016 taught me about America?

After a week of conversation and observation, amazing how perspectives and opinions have changed based on this election’s outcome. As protesters filled the streets, distraught over the recent election, their complaints rang of a not so distant past.

Letter: Frustrated fans can’t understand A’s
Posted: November 21, 2016

Please help me figure something out. I’ve been an Oakland A’s fan since the early 1970s, so has my daughter (thanks to Dad). Tell me why in the last 15 or so years, Oakland management has dealt their All Star players? Like Yonis Cespedas, Josh Donald, Josh Reddick, CoCo Crisp, and a host of others. And by the way, where are these guys now? Everyone of the above mentioned were in postseason this year, and one was in the World Series.

Letter: Protests after elections are nothing new, but try to stay positive
Posted: November 14, 2016

During my evening run-through of the cable news outlets, it was being reported that there were protests all around the USA. I heard the words, “Not my President” and that made me laugh. Not because it was funny, but because it was ironic.

Letter: Decisions have been made, it’s time to govern

Like many people, I voted for Hillary just to wake up in an alternate universe where Trump is president. Now what do we do? Since we are stuck with Trump and he has no experience, we are by definition in trouble. But putting aside the shear shock of what's happened, we have to come together for the sake of keeping civilization from crashing.

No one is perfect, but Clinton is best choice
Posted: November 07, 2016

Editor: This election season is almost over and important decisions will be made by voters across the U.S. The decision of the presidential race should be a no-brainer. If we want a president who is highly qualified with political experience at the national level, who knows the laws of our country from a legal political, social and economic standpoint, then we vote for Hillary Clinton.

Reader concerned about coverage
Posted: November 07, 2016

Editor: It was great to see the article about the lady giving out blue light bulbs in support of Lodi police, but Lodi Citizens in Action was doing this back in September and nothing was mentioned in the paper that I recall. The large event held at Lodi Lake at the end of September, a fundraiser for the Lodi Police Foundation, received very little if any coverage. After a complaint was lodged, there was an article about a week or so after the event.

Letter: Councilman says he supports Daley
Posted: November 04, 2016

To my surprise, I received an election mailer that has hijacked my name and position as to who I support in the City of Galt City Council election. To be clear, I support Sherry Daley, a person of integrity, honesty and having a true understanding of local government. I am compelled to dispute what every household in Galt has received by now, which is a smear on Sherry Daley, and a false reporting that I am part of a campaign which supports Paige Lampson.

Letter: Reader has feeling that Trump will pull off upset in a landslide

Well, it’s five days until the election and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hillary, Billy, their daughter and most of their staffs are indicted for a plethora of offenses from espionage to criminal activities and about 16 other felonies that could involve thousands of counts and that could happen before Nov. 8. Most assuredly before she takes office as president, which I don’t believe will happen.

Was Measure R worth $24,000?
Posted: October 27, 2016

Editor: The Lodi City Council voted for and approved putting Measure R on the ballot, which cost the city’s taxpayers $24,000. City leaders could justify this expenditure, if measure R is approved by the voters. But the city has collected more than a million dollars in revenue for late fees and penalties on utilities, which must have impacted many registered voters. It seems unrealistic to think that those voters would be sympathetic to the city’s sales tax increase. City leaders may not have used due diligence before spending $24,000.

Proposition 63 is a Trojan Horse
Posted: October 27, 2016

Editor: A Trojan Horse ballot measure is intended to secretly produce a different result than is advertised. Buried in 34 pages of fine print are oppressive restrictions on the purchase and transporting of ammunition by Californians. Yet, oppressive restrictions imposed against law-abiding citizens will not deter criminals.

How high can tax rates go?
Posted: October 26, 2016

Editor: How high do you really want your sales tax rates to go? There are always good causes demanding more money, but just like in our own personal financial situations, we can't always have everything we want. We have to find other ways to fund what we think are important things. I drive a 16-year-old car because there are other things in my life that need financial attention. Do you want 9 and 10 percent sales tax rates like many cities in California?

When you head to the ballot, know the fiscal impact of your decisions

Editor: With 17 propositions on this year’s November ballot (one of which may create a fiscal impact over $17 billion), the bullet train (which some experts say may cost $100 billion), and the Twin Tunnels (which may cost $100 billion dollars), it may help the average voter to know just how much $1 billion really is.

Letters: If you want change, vote for Trump
Posted: October 25, 2016

Editor: In 2012, Romney blew a chance to beat Obama. Republicans took over Congress with promises of real change, tax reform, border security, immigration reform, etc. Once in office, they joined the “establishment,” doing nothing but milking the American public and caving to Obama’s budget without a whimper. No wonder Americans are angry.

Letter: Trump is best choice
Posted: October 21, 2016

Good grief! We are on the verge of electing a "known criminal” to the highest office in the land. What does that say about us, the voters? Either way, we can not allow the Clintons back into the White House.

Letter: Clearing up facts about Measure R
Posted: October 21, 2016

In his letter to the editor Wednesday, Mr. Vetica pointed out that new development brings in park revenue. That’s true, but it’s one-time money only for new parks and new amenities. It may not be spent to maintain existing parks. It cannot be spent on repairing existing parks, which is the goal of Measure R. And, new development paid less than $500,000 in the last fiscal year, when Lodi’s parks have a $40 million backlog of projects.
