Letter: Busybodies or concerned citizens?
Posted: July 26, 2017

Editor: I would like to say that Mr. Silva was correct in his recent letter when he commented on people not having a deep understanding of what people are going through. He obviously has no understanding of the sacrifices his neighbors have made in order to own their own homes or the investment they make into making theirs a good community.

Posted: July 26, 2017

Editor: Props to Mr. Gary Maurer for his response to the increasingly bitter writings of a serial contributor to the LNS.

Letter: Solving the problem of Lodi’s water needs
Posted: July 25, 2017

Editor: Water! It is essential to human life. And there is not much of it. At least not much good quality potable stuff. I think about this every day as I drive past the Woodbridge Dam off Lower Sacramento Road — for the past six months large quantities of good water have spilled over the dam, down the river, out to the bay. Gone forever! No use to anyone, not even the fish.

Letter: Frustrated with political extremism
Posted: July 18, 2017

Editor: Much more often than we like we are "treated" to the dark, vitriol of ignorance, anger, and disinformation of the extremist right wing. Such is the letter of July 12 authored by Mr. Portal.

Letter: Busybodies should mind their own business
Posted: July 17, 2017

Editor: I have been a resident in Lodi for almost eight years. Since living here, I have come across some nice people as well as some rather untrustworthy characters. While I do enjoy living here, I feel that there is a growing problem — busybodies.

Letter: Don't salt down water going into the Delta
Posted: July 16, 2017

Editor: Without the flow of fresh water, salt water will have access to the Delta. Gov. Brown's commitment to wealthy corporate farmers down south will lead to the demise of fresh water to the towns along the Delta's banks that depend on it for survival.

Letter: Don't believe the hype about transgender people

Editor: Not wishing to be the bearer of what some may perceive as bad news, Ms. Olive Francis appears to have arrived late to the party.

Letter: Stop depending on government
Posted: July 15, 2017

Editor: I get a kick out of all these sensitive leftists that decry every utterance from President Trump as so dangerous, calling him a bully, etc. The reality is they are scared that whatever social program they're living off of will be curtailed or done away with and then they will actually have to be personally responsible for themselves because the "village" (aka the taxpayers) will no longer pick up the tab for their living expenses.

Letter: Time to slow speeding drivers on Church Street
Posted: July 15, 2017

Editor: My family and I have a nice little home on Church Street. We love the tree-lined street and the vintage homes but there is one major problem which seems to be getting no or at best a very slow response. Traffic.

Letter: Trump’s attacks on media are dangerous
Posted: July 10, 2017

Editor: Journalists sometimes risk their lives to bring the world news about events. Combat photographers and correspondents went ashore alongside soldiers storming Normandy beaches in World War II, shocked the country with televised reports of atrocities committed by American troops in Vietnam, died covering conflicts in South America, Mexico, Africa and the Balkans.

Letter: Losing touch with the citizens
Posted: June 21, 2017

Editor: Gov. Jerry “Moon Beam” Brown and his Demo-Gods in the capitol have lost touch with the people in the state. Their tax and spend approach to governing the state is creating poverty to the average citizen. Taxes are outpacing wage increases. The bullet train won’t serve the citizens of the state, much less pay for itself.

Letter: Giving credit where due
Posted: June 20, 2017

Editor: Earlier this spring, while my American history class talked about the turn of the 20th century, we discussed “yellow journalism” and studied comparisons to the present state of “news”. After studying the topic, a student offered this point to the discussion: “What if information hasn’t changed over the years and it has always been up to the readers to use critical thinking skills to decipher what is biased? Maybe people have always wanted to accept what fits their worldview.” How does this young-adult wisdom work today?

Letter: People should respect the president

Posted: June 09, 2017

Letter: Tough love approach with homeless?
Posted: June 06, 2017
