Letter: Gov. Jerry Brown paving a road to ruin
Posted: April 24, 2017

Editor: Gov. Jerry Brown and his cronies have jumped on board his money train and are speeding down the tracks to Nut Town (not to be confused with Modesto). It is not bad enough that Moonbeam sucked us in to his bullet train with no real end to the enormous cost involved; has now increased the gas taxes and registration fees to fix the roads that he should have been fixed years ago with money promised from those same taxes and fees; and now wants to build huge “tunnels” to transport Northern California water south while destroying the Delta and San Francisco Bay.

Letter: EPA is taken for granted
Posted: April 21, 2017

Editor: President Donald Trump and the motley crew of a few hundred Republican politicians want to strip the Environmental Protection Agency naked, defund Planned Parenthood, repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) in its new negative agenda. The GOP leadership continues to play to the fanatics in the Republican Party base.

Letter: Some additional advice on antennas
Posted: April 20, 2017

Editor: The advice by Minneapolis writer John Ewolt concerning TV antennas (News-Sentinel, April 13) is mostly spot-on, but there are a few caveats. To start, one of his three suggested antennas is a perfect choice for our area, but the others much less so. The determining factors are what frequencies are used by nearby TV broadcasters and where you are in relation to their transmitting antennas.

Letter: Questioning President Trump’s priorities
Posted: April 17, 2017

Editor: While sexual abuse is no laughing matter, President Donald Trump’s defense of Bill O’Reilly is laughable. According to an April 5 article by Yahoo News senior editor Dylan Stableford, instead of dealing with challenging issues affecting the nation and the world, Mr. Trump devoted his attention to a scandal involving a Fox News personality.

Letter: Spend taxpayer money more wisely
Posted: April 16, 2017

Editor: The recent letter by Orlene Dentone was right on the mark! It seems our politicians feel they are able to do whatever they want, in regard to taxes, without any repercussions. I believe at one point in time the gas tax revenue was held in a separate account until our wise legislators decided to put those funds in with the general tax funds.

Letter: Safe haven status a political scheme
Posted: March 10, 2017

Editor: Shame on the public school system for allowing children of illegal immigrants to go on believing that our government is out to get them, unless the "sanctuary" school will step in and save them from the evil President Trump! Instead of pretending that schools are safe havens from roving police searching for children, the schools should be teaching them that they have nothing to fear, unless they are proven criminals. And what kind of school system would want to protect criminals? Now that would be scary! This is nothing more than another political scheme to keep our kids ignorant and afraid so that they will be conditioned to grow up to be good voting Democrats. This is shameful and dishonest. Trustee Bonnie Cassel was quoted as having stated: "It is unthinkable ... that any of our children are in our classrooms and are fearful.”
