Investigations must take place
Posted: February 20, 2017

Editor: The Rachel Maddow Show on Feb. 14 was disturbing. On top of the news about Flynn’s involvement with the Russians, we now find out from the New York Times that phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Trump’s presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

Editor: When the “Good Old Boy” Lodi City Council members bypassed JoAnne Mounce, yet again, for Mayor in 2016, I wanted to write this letter but kept my thoughts to myself.

What is the truth?
Posted: February 20, 2017

Editor: Remember “Baghdad Bob”? He was Saddam Hussein”s media spokesman. He was the guy who said (valiantly so) that the Iraqi forces were heroically repelling American forces, even as U.S. Marines could be heard beating down the door of his palace office — yup, that guy.

Letter: LUSD safe haven would protect our students
Posted: February 17, 2017

I am writing in support of the “safe haven” proposal introduced by Bonnie Cassel at the last Lodi Unified School District board meeting. Immigrant students should not have to fear that they will be targeted for abuse while at school. Because of the current political climate, many people in our community are terrified.

Letter: Everyone not entitled to live here
Posted: February 17, 2017

Funny how time changes people’s way of thinking and their attitudes. My dad used to talk about how he grew up in Oklahoma in the 1920s and ’30s. They had 200 acres of cotton, corn, cows, chickens, etc. He and his sister started picking cotton at the age of 3.

Letter: Local nonprofit leader ready to help Lodi make the grade
Posted: February 08, 2017

After reading Danielle Vaughn’s recent article “Lung Association Lights Up Lodi,” I felt compelled to write a letter to the editor. Rather than pointing fingers at those who continually disrespect the “No Smoking Ordinance” or criticize those who do not enforce it, I believe I know how to bring our grade up from an F to an A+.

Letter: President trying to keep us safe
Posted: February 08, 2017

Reading the orders by President Trump regarding the refugee policy, I can’t understand why there’s such an uproar against them. Doesn’t temporary mean limited time and 90 days banning entries from seven Muslim majority nations mean temporary?

Reader unhappy with Congressman McNerney
Posted: February 06, 2017

Editor: Jerry McNerney won the election for the Congressional 9th District in 2016 by 57.6 percent and in 2014 by 52 percent. The way the district is carved up I don’t believe he can ever lose, so why lie about boycotting Trump’s inauguration?

The numbers shed the light on President Obama’s economic record

Be a leader for all Americans

Unhappy with the president
Posted: January 30, 2017

Editor: This is the first time that a president who won the election has obsessed over the size of his inaugural crowd or the popular vote that he did not win. Clearly the man is mentally unstable. Now he has directed an ill conceived ban based upon religious belief on entrants to the United States. He has named several countries on whose people the ban is imposed, including refugees fleeing terrorism. This is all under the guise of preventing “terrorist acts” in the U.S.

Don’t put politics ahead of people
Posted: January 20, 2017

Editor: On the Inauguration: Dear Congressman McNerney, Thank you for putting party politics ahead of the American people by boycotting the President’s Inauguration. Mr. Trump was chosen to change the direction of America but you and your ilk just don’t get it. Not that your attendance there would be of any significance but your refusal speaks volumes about your divisive attitude and that of your party. Good luck with that. You are an embarrassment to California and your district.
