Identity of President Obama’s God questioned

During his speech to Planned Parenthood on April 26, Obama invoked God's blessings and mocked North Dakota for their ruling — that once a baby's heartbeat is detected in utero around six weeks, it can no longer be aborted. Clearly, Obama doesn't care or realize that by the time the heart starts beating, the baby is making and circulating his or her own blood with their own DNA and chromosomes. This is a separate and unique human being forming, and not a woman's appendage or tumor.

If president wants to protect kids, why does he support abortion?

Shortly after Congress rejected the gun registration bill, President Obama said this was a pretty shameful day for Washington, shaming the senators for having no concern for the safety of the children of America.

Let’s revisit lowering class sizes for our students

Our students deserve better. In 2010, the LUSD Board of Trustees raised class sizes for our students in kindergarten through 12th grade. It was done, ostensibly, as a cost savings measure, but also to put pressure on employees to concede to dramatic salary concessions.

Let’s study options for the Delta before committing to twin tunnels

Because our state is so awash in debt and unfunded public employees’ pension requirements, it is imperative that we citizens pay attention to projected huge expenditures that will impact our state for years to come. Can we really afford a high-speed railroad that seems more a dream of Jerry Brown’s ego than anything realistically possible in the near future?

Why should we export our oil, then import more?

In a recent article, a writer extolled the oil companies for reducing the price of gas. The main reasons were the completion of switching over to summer blend, the price of a barrel of oil is now $88, the demand for oil in China was not what it was expected to be and the usage of gas in the United States is down because of the buying of lower mileage cars and reduced driving.

Local pharmacy appreciated

There is an old saying: "You never miss what you have until you lose it." And that statement came to play in my life in April.

Christians and Muslims are at war, whether we admit it or not

During a recent BBC News interview, a retired U.S. general was asked if he felt the U.S. is still at war and with whom. His answer hurt: "Yes, and it's a war we, our kids and grandkids will not see the end of."

When should police take action?

My wife and I were at a mall in Stockton on May 3 at about 10:30 a.m. where we ran across a scene being played out in one of the shops. There was a woman screaming at the top of her lungs and using foul language and threats as her daughter, who was about 7 or so, was crying at witnessing her mother's actions. This woman would not stop. She just kept going back for more and would not listen to mall security.

Tea Party was not formed due to President Obama’s election

In reading comments from my leftist friends, I find that they consistently call the Tea Party a group solely formed as a reaction to having, as one put it, "a black socialist president." As usual they see the color, ethnicity or faith in a person first in describing them. It doesn't matter what he looks like; it's his policies that are abhorrent.

Burglars left granddaughters scared

This is to the two women in the red car who broke into my son's home and stole my granddaughters' laptops, jewelry left to them from their great-grandmother who passed a year ago, their Wii and many games, the rent and food money their father had supposedly hidden but was found by these two women, and much, much more.

Be proactive, and let the police do their job

I read the police log daily and all I can think of is, really? Isn't our police department a little busy with crime, gangs and keeping our streets safe?

What judgment will history record for this generation? I hope there is time for vindication.

Balanced reporting, inflation and waste

I believe that a newspaper should carry balanced reporting. That way we can be aware of what the enemy is doing. The Creators Syndicate columns carried in the Lodi News-Sentinel is an example of that premise. They have conservative writers such as John Stossel and Thomas Sowell. Other writers endorse everything Obama says. Higher taxes, more government agencies, more welfare programs — they're all for it.

Which god was President Obama invoking at Planned Parenthood?

On April 26, Obama became the first U.S. president to ever speak at Planned Parenthood, and in closing his speech expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the organization by saying, "Thank you, Planned Parenthood, God bless you ... God bless America." I was shocked and dismayed, but not surprised.

Inconvenient truth about the Second Amendment

I would like to point out an "inconvenient truth" — that the Second Amendment was not put in the Constitution to protect your right to hunt, sport shoot or for personal protection. It was put there to protect the people from the tyranny of the government.

Economy will get worse if the dollar loses reserve currency status

The U.S. dollar has been the world's reserve currency for many decades, so most Americans don't have a clue about what happens when losing that status. We believe that could never happen in the USA. When countries get too far in debt, consume too much or produce too little, this can easily happen, and we are almost in that situation.

‘Cane-Fu’ is good for defense

Regarding the issue of aggressive dogs on the street, for years I've carried a cane while walking my small dog. I recommend it to anyone walking about, since there is no telling when a hostile dog will show.

Seizure of Associated Press records reeks of arrogance

When informed that the Justice Department had seized a trove of Associated Press phone records, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner said: "If the Obama administration is going after reporters' phone records, they better have a damned good explanation." Comments (0)

Should the U.S. government be allowed to use drone strikes against U.S. citizens?

NBC News reported last week that a confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be “senior operational leaders” of al-Qaida or “an associated force” — even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S. Comments (2)
