Letter: Do you pick and choose which letters to the editor to publish?
Posted: July 10, 2014

I am just curious. In reading the letters to the editor, it seems to be heavily balanced toward four or five elderly men giving updates from the previous night’s Fox viewing.

Letter: There should be limits on setting off fireworks
Posted: July 10, 2014

Well, the Fourth of July has come and gone again — or has it? For the previous three weeks or so, and now for days after celebrating our nation’s birthday, the unsafe and sound (very loud sound) firecrackers continue to bombard my neighborhood. Early Tuesday morning at approximately 3:30 a.m., another bomb went off, causing me to jump from a deep sleep. This really sounded like a landmine going off in my backyard. I don’t know about the rest of the Lodi, but we’ve had these things going off for weeks.

Posted: July 10, 2014

The American Steel Car Club of Lodi will be having our 19th annual “Stuck in Lodi” Classic Car Show on Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held in beautiful Downtown Lodi on School Street, from Lodi Avenue to Elm and the side streets — Walnut, Oak and Pine. Last year we had 279 pre-1972 classic cars.

Letter: Who’s keeping tabs on the water?
Posted: July 08, 2014

I would like to address this letter to the Lodi City Council, the Planning Commission, County Supervisors and all who are responsible employees of “we the people” with respect to potential use of our precious water resources.

Letter: Owners of empty homes should be billed for clean up
Posted: July 08, 2014

I was driving around Lodi, and I do not understand why the city of Lodi would tolerate all the properties around town that are uninhabited and left to go to weeds and disarray.

Letter: Lodi’s post office needs beautifying
Posted: July 08, 2014

How nice it is to see the new bench installed and people going about keeping Lodi cleaned up. However, until the U.S. post office does something about painting their building, cleaning up their walkways and improving their flower beds, Downtown will continue to look dirty and neglected.

Letter: Hobby Lobby does provide health plans with contraceptive coverage
Posted: July 08, 2014

All this mass hysteria of the Democrats and their extreme feminists over the Hobby Lobby decision of the U.S. Supreme Court is absolute nonsense. They characterize Hobby Lobby as against women and contraception (their phony “war on women” to gin up the women’s vote).

Letter: We need the truth to be truly free
Posted: July 05, 2014

Truth is higher than freedom. Freedom is higher than peace. There is no peace without freedom, nor freedom without truth. Outside the truth there is only the lie — all wisdom and knowledge outside truth is corrupt and destructive and always leads to error and lawlessness, anarchy and chaos, and misery and death.

Letter: There are more important things for President Obama to focus on
Posted: July 05, 2014

In the News-Sentinel on June 24, it was once again shown that this Marxist president tears down the U.S. There isn’t a week that goes by where he doesn’t cut this nation down as being unequal, racist, xenophobic — you name it and we are just not up to that great standard set by other nations of the world.

Letter: Music classes return to Lodi Unified School District
Posted: July 03, 2014

The elementary music program is happy to report that the fifth-grade students of Lodi Unified School District will be able to participate in band or string instrument lessons this coming school year. The board of education is bringing back the elementary instrumental program after eliminating the program in 2008 due to budget cuts.

Letter: Alegre truck driver brakes for turkey
Posted: July 03, 2014

Cheers to the Alegre truck driver who was driving a double dirt hauler and making a left-hand turn off Lower Sacramento Road to Highway 12 on the morning of June 24. He came to a full stop in the intersection to allow a female wild turkey to cross. He blew his air horn and all, but she ignored the noise and slowly trotted to the other side.

Letter: Where is the world’s outcry for the victims?
Posted: July 01, 2014

Where is the outcry, the outrage from the “moderate and peaceful” Islamic community? Where are their reformers? Where are the forceful protests and adamant objections by the world governments led by the U.N.? Where is the strong rebuke and sharp reprimands by the church, and the clap, clang and clamor of the intelligentsia over the brutal Muslim violence committed against Jews, Christians, women, children and the elderly by caliphate chasing Islamist executioners shooting and beheading all opponents as they advance their cause?

Letter: Progressives should give Fox News a try
Posted: June 28, 2014

The Fox Network needs to be stopped. They’ve gone far too far. They insist on delivering what they refer to as current “fair and balanced” news almost daily — inundated and deluged with numerous “downloads” of a new scandal, or a cover up story of an old scandal.

Letter: Downtown Lodi patrons, respect Lodi post office parking lot signs

Letter: Thoughts about Galt’s new Walmart
Posted: June 25, 2014

On June 11, Galt welcomed a new Walmart to town, meaning that nearly 300 full- or part-time workers were added to the list of the employed. That evidently means that 300 people who were not employed before now have a job.

Letter: Obama derelict in duty as commander-in-chief

I’ve been hesitant to write about the terrorists’ swap and the return of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. But then I heard Secretary of State John Kerry’s response on CNN when he was asked about the ability of these five top generals of the Taliban to return to the field and kill Americans again. He replied, “They also have the ability to be killed.”

Letter: Help Lodi Adopt-A-Child prepare for school year
Posted: June 25, 2014

School is out for the summer, but children will be returning in late July. We want students to be prepared and ready to learn. It is not uncommon for students to show up on the first day of school with holes in their shoes and well-worn shirts and pants. And when the weather turns cold, many students do not have warm jackets.

Letter: Advice on student dress, immigrants and LOEL Bingo
Posted: June 23, 2014

Now that school is out for the summer, the school administrators should look at the dress code for students. There should be no more short shorts for girls, and they should be required to wear skirts and blouses. The boys need to cover their behinds, wear decent clothes and clean up their act!

Letter: President is putting our country at risk
Posted: June 23, 2014

In return for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, a Marine held captive for five years in Afghanistan after he left his post, President Obama released the five most dangerous Islamic terrorists at Gitmo. They are supposed to be monitored in Qatar for a year, but Qataris are already disavowing that agreement — a heavy price to pay for a deserter.

Letter: Traditions such as graduation are what make Lodi ‘livable,’ ‘lovable’
Posted: June 20, 2014

When reading the Letters to the Editor section of the paper, I was made aware in Kathy Dais’ letter, “Tradition should hold worth in graduations,” that our graduating students, after attending the Lodi school system for 12 years, have to leave Lodi to graduate in Stockton. What’s wrong with this? Why are we paying revenue for a place in Stockton when Lodi can use it? Stockton has nothing to do with our school system here.

Letter: There is much to be gained in giving without guilt
Posted: June 18, 2014

I recently talked with a man who has spent his life in India. He was impressed with the Americans he has met who, when becoming aware of the plight and circumstances Indians are faced with, responded by wanting to help; some by giving money and others by wanting to do something, but not sure how. I pointed out to him that he may be surprised that Asians can help Americans out far more than he perceives.

Posted: June 17, 2014

As a former Tokay High School graduate, Class of 1984, and a mother of a current Tokay High student, Class of 2016, I feel that graduation should be held in the city where the student goes to school. I don’t care that it could rain, be 110 degrees or if the girls’ shoes may poke a hole in the turf — those are some of the reasons I am hearing for the move to Stockton.

Letter: America needs prosperity, not more CEO greed
Posted: June 11, 2014

I was amazed when I read your article about the top 10 CEOs in the country making anywhere from $37 million a year to as much as $68 million. There are millions of Americans who have lost good, high-paying jobs in this country, and they are now working two jobs to make ends meet, and they still don’t have the income that they used to have before the economy crashed and burned back in 2008. And there are millions of others who have never been able to get another job.
