The grape harvest is nearing an end, but it's still worth repeating: Be careful when driving on local roads this time of year, especially at night.

The danger of motorists colliding with large and slow-moving grape harvesters and other ag-related vehicles is quite real. A Galt woman was injured Tuesday night after hitting a tractor pulling a havester on Peltier Road, east of Davis Road. An official said the woman may not have seen lights on the harvester, part of which extended over the center line.

So drivers, slow down and beware. And growers, make sure your equipment is up-to-date with all lighting and safety equipment.

Tuesday's night accident, fortunately, resulted in only minor injuries.

While an important bit of advice, why should this merit an editorial? It's no wonder the LNS is in trouble with stuff like this coming from an Editor's desk when a cub reporter could have banged this out on an ancient Underwood or Smith Corona in less than three minutes.

I am looking forward to Caltran's executing its plan to improve Highway 12 between I-5 and Rio Vista....so I can come to lovely Lodi (and spend money) more often. Caltrans says they will put a concrete barrier down the center across Bouldin Island next year. That will be terrific. I'd love to enjoy evening dining in Lodi, but am afraid of that dangerous drive home. Old Town Lodi is simply wonderful.....

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
