Yes it is amazing what one learns in basic training. We had a tin garbage can that was so polished and silvery that you could use it as a mirror. Sgt. Fernandez (it is amazing who 44 years later one remembers their names) on inspection looked into it and found that someone had committed the unpardonable sin of throwing a piece of paper in the can. This led to a 45 minute rant on what maggots (their favorite term) we were, comments about our ancestry, that the world would not survive us being it etc.

To this day when someone asks how we could not win that war my stock answer is that our leaders did not know what a garbage can is used for.

So, now there is a "double standard", one for public figures and one for the average citizen? More liberal hogwash.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
