A person would not know that his boat is sinking without a point of reference at least until his feet start getting wet.

With the fact that something as simple as not being able to turn off the cell phone and not pick it up while driving indicates a very real lack of self discipline in society in general. Gangs fighting for territories and respect to simple bullying shows a cry for social dominance. There will always be stronger characters that continually seek to control others. - What about the others? Can't we all just get along?

Structure has it's value as a point of reference and I think we are now getting our feet wet wondering just what happened. - Nothing that we can't look at and perhaps change for the future generations. The value of knowing history jumps out now and again. Maybe our parents way of life had it's purpose after all. Who is to say.
