Tossing all the phones in the lake would save a lot of lives and emotion wouldn't it?
Doesn't matter where they learn it just that they learn it.

I would say it is a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Younger folk telling the older folk what is acceptable. Who is the teacher anyhow?
If a parent hasn't influenced their child enough towards a positive direction before they turn the magical age of teen -ism and for some it doesn't ever happen then good luck with the rest of the child's life.

That is what teacher's are faced with. Why is the legal system even getting involved with it? Defending the bully - OK shoot yourself in the foot for the sake of freedom of speech without consequences. -Really? Real Lawsuits here they come. These are kids you are talking about. Better to learn now than later in a real courtroom for trivial gossipy issues or libel issues when they get older.
You take the face to face reality out of anything and it converts to a video game with no consequences. Facebook, Twitter, remote controlled drones, automatic anything takes it away in the name of convenience. No risk. It can bring on a mighty brave individual that may say something that he would not normally say or do face to face. Instant mob mentality with no responsibility. No humanity. It takes a lot of light hearted conversation not to get sucked into that tornado. How can you expect our kids to withstand the wind without giving them the tools.

Instant messaging can be wonderful if the rest of the story is understood.

What IS acceptable and how will they learn it without knowing the risk?
