Why Mr. Guzzardi knowingly continues to mischaracterize this California legislation (AB 1236) signed by Jerry Brown is beyond me. I am sure that Joe Guzzardi knows full well the content of this law, i.e., is does not "quash" E-Verify, it simply says that employers in CA under certain circumstances are not required to use it.

Mr. Guzzardi states: " Without E-Verify, illegal immigrants can keep jobs that unemployed Californians might want."

Since E-Verify is used ONLY for new employees, his claim that illegals "can keep jobs" is false.

According to the DHS website that Mr. Guzzardi cited himself back in October 2011:

"For most employers, the use of E-Verify is voluntary and limited to determining the employment eligibility of NEW HIRES ONLY."

Mr. Guzzardi's columns would be much more informative if he did not continually shape the facts to suit his case. I am sure there are many more factual points and statistical evidence that could be used to support his POV.
