    3) A.B. 353, the third bill, prohibits police officers from impounding unlicensed drivers' vehicles at checkpoints. A large percentage of such drivers are aliens. According to research conducted by the AAA Foundation and published in its report titled "Unlicensed to Kill," unlicensed drivers are involved in one of every five fatal crashes.

If you wonder how a law as destructive as A.B. 353 could even be considered, here's the tortured logic. Assemblyman Gil Cedillo asserts that aliens (who have no legal right to be in the United States) need their cars to get to work (it's against the law for them to drive or to be employed). Cedillo says the aliens can't afford the fees to get their cars out of impound.

-This bill allows people breaking the law to continue to break the law.

It seems to me the strategy of E-verify should not be met with criticism. The very purpose of E-verify is to make sure ONLY legal citizens get jobs. Yet Joanne is outraged Illegals can no longer get jobs so easily. It doesnt make any sense. And as far as the jobs bill the Republicans voted down. Given the last stimulus package Obama put together had little or no effect on the economy, why would anyone expect this current bill to work either.

And Brown and Obama and the rest of the extreme liberal idiots expect us to gladly hand over our tax dollars to support their illegal agenda ! There is nothing we can do but vote them out of office, we can't even seem to do that. Whats wrong with this picture ?

Why is it that if a person wants to become a doctor, the gov will send them through military med school provided they pay back the education by serving the country as a doctor for the military and yet Jerry BO wants to give someone an education without requiring ANY payback.

Perhaps Joanne should write her own column explaining what Joe left out. If she is so convinced Joe's agenda is to mislead people then she should put her money where her mouth is. What really irks me about her strategy is she is constantly accusing people of things that just aren't so.

Joe Boyd posted Mr. Guzzardi fits well into the propaganda of the Lodi News-Sentinel and the Weybret's playbook. Another Lodi slumlord full of hate ad anger.

Joe and Ms Bobin are two of a kind... instead of open honest disussion about race issues and concerns, we get typical name calling... if you are against the dream act, you are a racist or bigot in their view... I think it is a matter of fairness... nothing to do with race... instead of a discussion about fairness, we get immediate slams
like" Whoa, Mr. Baumbach, the bigots are out in force today. Too many to check which corner they are "around."

Ms Bobin stated...I just want a completely honest discussion...

Ms Bobin, that may be your intent, however, it is difficult to believe. In my view, you prefer to call people racists and bigots rather than discuss what someone says.
You began this thread with the following...

“Why are this man's "thoughts" still being printed in this paper. His legacy of over 10 years of bigotry against Hispanics is quite enough. “

If this is your way to foster open honest dialogue, then I think your your technique falls short. I attempt to discuss race and issues concerning Sharia... all I get I an expected racist and bigot comment from you and others... no Ms Bobin... honest discussion has nothing to do with your intent in my opinion...

Mr. Guzzardi - you are deliberately focusing on things that "seem" to back up your claims.

Your reputation as an demagogue on the issue of immigration precedes you and precludes any clear thinking on the topic. You can spin what you like, any way you like. It still does not add up to what you claim.

I am in no way supporting illegal immigration. I just want a completely honest discussion rather than the scare tactics you like to feed the people of Lodi who are already prejudiced enough without the addition of your columns that give half truths.

@Joanne: Fong claims---emphasis on "claims"---"E-Verify would impose a major financial burden on employers" Please explain to me how a program that's free can result in "a major financial burden on employers"? Anyway you add up free, the total is free.

Fong is also wrong when he further claims that the data bases are error-ridden. That scare tactic has been repeatedly proven false. Fong is right, however, about E-Verify being a being a "job killer". It kills jobs for people who have been hired without legal authorization to work in the U.S.

But you and I know that he will NEVER do that because that will anger the democrat voters who elected him based on all his promises to gays and illegals in particular.

Where Joanne... are those 3 million shovel ready jobs Obama promised the legal citizens of America."

Again, an obviously lack of literacy on the part of Mr. Cook. The Obama Administration has the record for more raids on employers of illegals than any other president in recent history. Look it up.

To the second, apparently you do not read or watch the news. The REPUBLICANS just voted down the jobs bill that contained those "shovel ready" jobs.

I think I have dealt with enough idiocy today. Time to take my blood pressure medication.

"When Burger King, McDonalds and Budweiser display Billboards for their products 100% in Spanish, who are these corporations catering too?

To your first statement, Mr. Cook, where do you get the idea that "every legal US Citizen can read, write and speak English?"

The US ranks 20th in the world in literacy with its rate of "functional illiteracy" extremely high.

To your second question, "who are these corporations catering too (sic), (FYI, YOU NOT ONLY USED THE WRONG FORM OF "TOO," YOU ALSO ENDED YOUR SENTENCE IN A PREPOSITION - so if I were you, I would not be bragging about my literacy skills)

I'm sure you meant that to be a rhetorical question - here's the definition of rhetorical question in case you haven't reached that level of literacy:

"a question asked solely to produce an effect or to make an assertion and not to elicit a reply,"

Smart corporations make sure they thoroughly reach their intended demographic. If you need to wonder why they do that, perhaps you should attend some business classes.

Obviously, Mr.Guzzardi likes to cherry-pick his facts. Yes, according to the DHS website he cites, EVerify is free to employers. What he doesn't go on to explain are the other costs to small businesses:

Assemblyman Paul Fong, the sponsor of the bill stated:

"“This bill protects our California workers and businesses. The mandated use of E-Verify would impose a major financial burden on businesses, especially small businesses. In addition, businesses will suffer from delayed hiring and the cost of mistaken identities. In this tough economy, we need to help businesses and grow and provide jobs, not set up barriers that cost jobs.”

Those pushing E-Verify say it identifies workers who do not have authorization to work in the US. But because the social security files are error-ridden, E-verify instead kills jobs, slaps burdens on small businesses, and hurts taxpayers.

The DHS website that Mr. Guzzardi cites states:

"For most employers, the use of E-Verify is voluntary and limited to determining the employment eligibility of NEW HIRES ONLY."

For those who have a tough time comprehending written English, this means employers cannot go back and EVerify current employees. This is where the EVerify system fails. How do we get rid of illegal employees already in the workplace, which is what all of the commentors on this site want to do?

    and, according to DHS:

"E-Verify is mandatory for some employers, such as those employers with federal contracts or subcontracts that contain the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) E-Verify clause and employers in certain states."

The last means that AB 1236 does not cover the above employers which provide, by far, the higher paying jobs which require SKILLED labor.

Mr. Guzzardi, in his comment, did not address the fact that he wrote that AB 1236 BANS employers from using it. It does not. It prohibits state, city and local governments from REQUIRING that employers use it.

Typical of this "columnist" to twist facts and present situations to a community that he knows has a high percentage of anti-Hispanic citizens such as himself.

I always enjoy your thoughts and observations, Mr. Guzzardi. The Sactuary Movement here in California is clearly intended to keep people like Jerry Brown in power. And the majority wants him to remain there.

Liberal thinking is a puzzle to me, but two things are crystal clear; California is becoming more and more socialist and will NEVER reverse course, and second, the smart money is heading out of here without looking back. What a shame; California used to be a great place to live and work. It is now the laughingstock of the entire nation.

My stepdaughter must remain in CA until she's 18; one-millisecond after this milestone, the wife and I turn the key and start grabbing gears. We're already looking at real estate in Wyoming. In the meantime, we will sign any/all petitions to remove onerous legislation and Jerry Brown. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

According to Joanne in her reader comment below, Brown disallowed E-Verify "because of the prohibitive costs involved for small businesses to implement it."

Joanne is 100 percent wrong and is circulating gross misinformation. E-Verify is completely free to all its users.

Here's the exact language that I took directly from the Department of Homeland Security website: "There is no charge to employers to use E-Verify."

The website, for readers who may want to verify my information or learn more about the program is here: http://www.dhs.gov/files/programs/gc_1185221678150.shtm

I'll make it simple for you. They are catering to those in Lodi who cannot read English.

But of course you will say I am racist because obviously you are not for legal immigration.

If I am wrong.... please state here that you believe the millions of illegals in America should apply for immigration like the rest of the worlds immigrants must do and (WAIT IN LINE)! I have never read such a statement from you EVER!

Joanne.... your post was meant as Humor wasn't it? Ok I get it!

Illegals have no right to be in this country. America welcomes immigrants who go thru the immigration process and proudly pledge their alliegience to America. Billions are wire transfered back to mexico by those working illegally in America. Surely you can see their alliengence is not for America but their own Country. They deserve to be deported. They deserve to lose their car. Let me see you are a loved one of yours killed by an unlicensed, uninsured illegal and spout the same comment.

Bleeding liberal democrats can't see the forest for the trees!

Billions of dollars nationwide are spent on illegals with regards to welfare, free medical, food stamps and incarceration and you know that is a fact! Yet still you imply that we should just open our borders to illegals and that anyone who complains is just being racist.

I feel sad for your outlook.

Obama will Push every Democrat and Hispanic to register to vote and Donate $$$$$ to get him re-elected because 2012 is the only way he can destroy America. Hispanics typically VOTE Democrat because they want (FREE BENEFITS) ... so 12-15 million DREAM ACT amnesty/Citizenship means millions of NEW Democrat Voters and everyone knows this is FACT not racism.

If Obama can be re-lected, and Gain democrat contorl of the sensate and the House, he will be able to push and force Americans to accept every one of his startegies to bring America to its knees.

    Gay Marriage nationwide
    Pot legal nationwide
Immediate Amnesty for millions of people who should go back home.

2012 will either be a victory for America or a terrible day for this great country.

Whoa, Mr. Baumbach, the bigots are out in force today. Too many to check which corner they are "around."

Flat out lie by Guzzardi - he stated:

"The second bill, A.B. 1236, BANS all public and private employers from using E-Verify, the national online database that allows employers to check their new hires' immigration status."

The actual bill "prohibits the state, cities or counties from REQUIRING employers to use E-Verify," because of the prohibitive costs involved for small businesses to implement it.

If I could find this one LIE so easily in his column, what else has he fabricated to get the juices of Lodi bigots going today?

Why are this man's "thoughts" still being printed in this paper. His legacy of over 10 years of bigotry against Hispanics is quite enough. Yes, ONLY Hispanics. Just ask him what he thinks about the hundreds of thousands of Asian refugees that soaked up our resources after the Vietnam war. They were wonderful people according to his previous columns. What do we have now? Asian gangs that are more violent than most - but at least they prey on their own race. Maybe that's why Guzzardi thinks they are so wonderful.

And stop the comparisons about "what we would receive if we were in another country illegally." You are not and you wouldn't be. This is the US. Accept our freedoms or leave.

Well written and said. California needs leadership that respects the hardworking taxpayers of this state. These type of bills take away the rights of the taxpayer, creat an unsafe environment for our state. Wish our tax payer bill was itemized so we could refuse to pay towards these Cal Grants. Many middle class Californian students do not qualify for these grants. Yes, these illegal students were taught in our schools, funded by tax payers, but would we receive this aid if we were in another country illegally? Enough is enough of the give aways. We have a natural disaster in our country, and the citizen has to take a low interest loan to get back on there feet, but we give money to those that cannot afford it to other countries, and now we as tax payers are footing the bill for illegals to have an opportunity to enter our over crowded schools, stopping our citizens to further their education. Enough of the give aways.
