New volunteer for 9/11 event
In my column last Saturday, I asked if anyone were (this form of the verb is correct with "if") going to take over the planning of the ecumenical remembrance event there was last year on 9/11, as that organizer, Pastor Mark from St. Paul Lutheran Church, is not going to be in town.
I am happy to report that Rabbi Dr. Raphael Pazo has volunteered to organize the event this year, and has already laid the groundwork for a commemoration at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 11, in the main room of the American Legion Hall, 320 N. Washington Street.
Letters and emails have already gone out to all local churches asking for their participation, with a reply date of Wednesday, Sept. 5. Dr. Pazo may be reached at 369-0963 for further details.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend. This particular date should not go unrecognized.

In keeping with the subject of 9/11, I have recently read a book called "The Harbinger," which takes a different and very significant view of the attack as a parallel to what happened to the Hebrews way back in Old Testament history. The subject is presented in a narrative fashion and is easily read. The ending is something of a shocker, concerning the relationship between our country's present days and its historical past.
And one to end with: "Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties." — Abraham Lincoln

Thank you for keeping us abreast of the event, and thank you for Rabbi Pazo's "stepping up to the plate" on this. I do wish it was in the evening as I work an hour away and won't be able to attend. Glad to hear your review on "The Harbinger". A friend had told me about it last week and I was anxious to hear people's opinion on it, and will now purchase it.
Sharing the Lincoln quote on Facebook...if we just heeded these 2 little sentences, we would be fine as a nation. It isn't rocket science- it just takes a lot of tough decision making.
