If someone I knew, or someone in my family, was a victim of a hate crime, I would, like, die. I detest hate crimes because I think it is stupid for people to do mean things just because someone has different colored skin or doesn’t go to the same church.
It is cruel to do horrible things such as graffiti or say, “A certain group of people don’t belong here” or “You should die because you believe in God.” I just think it’s sad.
I would hate it if my grandma was a victim of a hate crime. It would be terrible if her car was spray-painted with words saying, “Iranians don’t belong here.” The first thing I’d do is call her to see how she is doing. I would also ask to go to her house.
When I got there, I’d help clean her car. If anything else was vandalized, I’d help her fix that, too. I would ask her if she’d seen a person doing it. Then I would take her out to someplace nice and try to cheer her up. After that, I would call the police.
When the police came, I would tell them everything, including what happened and when it happened. I would get involved. If problems continued, I would tell my grandma to get security cameras up and then report any other crimes to the police. Hopefully, the person who committed the hate crime would get caught and arrested.
When I got back to school, I would make awesome posters about stopping hate crimes, and I would hang them around the school. With my dad and sister’s help, I’d make a video and send it to a commercial company. The video would be a commercial with a strong message: Don’t do hate crimes. I might be able to get my principal involved by asking him if we could hold an assembly telling kids not to commit hate crimes.
Another idea that might work is writing a letter to the mayor. I’d see if he/she could do something about it. Also, the posters would be bright so everyone would stop and look at them. I might even be able to organize a walk-a-thon to support people who had been victims of hate crime.
I think it would be important to get the news involved so that more people in Lodi and the surrounding areas would hear about the problem. Another idea would be for me to write a speech saying how horrible hate crimes are.
Now you know what I would do if my grandma, or anyone else, was a victim of a hate crime. Hate crimes are horrible, and I would do anything I could to try to stop them. Hate crimes are done just because some people don’t like diversity.
It is sad that there are people out there who hate others just because of the color of their skin, gender, religion or nationality. We must do all we can to prevent these crimes from happening.
