Four out of 10 drivers don't know this dashboard warning could save their lives

(BPT) - When it comes to tire pressure safety, many drivers fall flat in connecting this all-important safety concern with the dashboard icon that could alert them to a problem, a new national survey shows. With an estimated 245 million cars and light trucks on U.S. roadways, driver safety concerns are top-of-mind among consumers. In fact, 95 percent of drivers consider vehicle safety features an important issue when shopping for a car. Unfortunately, when it comes to recognition of lifesaving vehicle dashboard icons, many drivers are unaware, uninformed and unprepared.

Former all-star short stop and professional baseball coach Larry Bowa discusses his painful case of shingles

(BPT) - Larry Bowa may be known for his baseball prowess and fiery personality, but in June 2013, the two-time Golden Glove-winner was stopped in his tracks by a case of shingles, which he says caused him some of the worst pain of his life. Bowa said the pain he felt was so intense he could barely walk, originally leading him to think he had injured his back. But his MRI came back negative, and he received instead an unexpected diagnosis of shingles.

What's the top learning style in America? Hands-on wins hands down, survey says

(BPT) - Children learn by doing, and every child has a unique learning style all his or her own, child development experts tell us. The same can be said of adults if a recent survey is any indication. A majority of Americans say hands-on training is the hands-down winner when they want to learn something new in an educational environment, according a Harris Interactive poll conducted on behalf of Everest College.

Health care industry experiencing new demands for nurses

(BPT) - Nursing continues to be one of the fastest-growing occupations in the nation, as nurses make up the majority of the health care industry workforce. In fact, recent projections from a January 2014 report published in the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook estimate the job growth to be 19 percent faster than the average occupation through 2022.

What would Harvey Cushing say about Cushing's disease today?

(BPT) - More than 80 years ago renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Harvey Cushing, discovered a tumor on the pituitary gland as the cause of a serious, hormone disorder that leads to dramatic physical changes in the body in addition to life-threatening health concerns. The discovery was so profound it came to be known as Cushing’s disease. While much has been learned about Cushing’s disease since the 1930s, awareness of this rare pituitary condition is still low and people often struggle for years before finding the right diagnosis.
