(NewsUSA) - When you think about cowboys and chuck wagons, your mind naturally heads out West. Not so fast, pard! Pigeon Forge, Tenn., at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, hosts one of the finest cowboy gatherings east of the Mississippi River. "Saddle Up" is well known among cowboy performers and now is the perfect time for everyone to learn about this entertainment-packed event.
Saddle Up salutes the American West with concerts by cowboy musicians and poets, a chuck wagon cook-off and lunch, a cowboy dance, cowboy church and other activities that will entertain the entire family.
Award-winning entertainers like Baxter Black, Waddie Mitchell and Sons of the San Joaquin have performed at Saddle Up. Audiences enjoy tunes from the trail, along with poems and stories from the cowboy point of view.
The Buckeroo Roundup gives everyone a chance to test his or her cowboy or cowgirl skills -- ride a pony or a mechanical bull; try your hand at roping or branding. And there's nothing better than lunch cooked and served from a chuck wagon. Authentic wagons head to Pigeon Forge each year to compete in a cook-off and then feed hungry crowds. You best be ready when the dinner bell rings, as more than 600 folks will show up to get a taste of the West.
Concerts are king at Saddle Up. In addition to multi-performer shows, there are two dinner shows and one special entertainer showcase called "Stories & Strings." Both offer great opportunities to get up close and personal with the cowboy performers.
When the concerts end, it's time to move to the dance floor. Saddle Up is a great place to show off your skills, whether it's a two-step, a waltz or a polka. Not a dancer? No problem. Pull up a chair and enjoy the music.
Then there's a chuck wagon breakfast, followed by Cowboy Church, a non-denominational service where everyone is welcome.
