Sally Jane Esparsen, 64, of Lodi, died of natural causes, in a local hospital, after a long illness. She was born Sally Roderick, on Dec. 31, 1938, in Saybrook, Ohio.

Mrs. Esparsen grew up and attended school in Astabula, Ohio. She moved to California with her family in 1960. She also lived in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana. She lived in the Galt and Acampo area from 1968 and moved to Lodi in 1991.

She was a self-employed tax consultant for over 20 years. She was an active member of Living Word Ministries in Lodi, and served as a secretary to her church. When she was well, she made herself available to care for others.

She enjoyed bowling in leagues for Lodi and Galt, singing and being creative.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Broyer, of Jamestown, and Lisa Brassy, of Lodi; sons, Carl Redden and Eric Redden, both of Lodi, and Joel Redden, of Arizona; sisters, Gloria Parmertor, of Eric, Pa., Marilyn Sacay, of Visalia, Patricia Edwards, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Rose Roderick, of Lodi; brothers, John Roderick and David Roderick, of Ashtabula, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and step-son, Paul Carmon, of Seattle.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Roy and Marty Redden; sisters, Agnes and Mary Lou Roderick, and Margaret Cogswell; and brothers, Wilbur M. and Bernard Roderick.

A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Lodi Funeral Home, with Pastor David Butt of Living Word Ministries officiating. Committal will follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Ministries, Loma Drive, Lodi, CA 95242.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.

Lodi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
