W. Gene Ottinger, 81, of Lodi, died May 9. He was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Ottinger graduated from Pacific Union College, majoring in theology and elementary education. After working briefly in pastoral work and teaching, he decided to enter the health care field and trained to become a psychiatric technician. He worked for the state hospital system. He attended Cleveland Chiropractic College. He was a member of the California Chiropractic Association, and served as an independent expert witness in health care arbitration and litigation. He attended Lodi English Oaks and Lockeford Seventh-day Adventist churches. He was active in Sabbath School as leader, and was an ordained deacon and elder.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Duffy, of Eastern Europe, and Jonelle Ottinger, of Stockton; son, Douglas Ottinger, of Crookston, Minn.; sister, Katherine Morales, of Sacramento; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aletha; and brother, Paul Ottinger.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home.
