Wayne 'Pat' Patterson

Wayne "Pat" Patterson, 82, of Galt, died on May 26. He was born on Sept. 21, 1925, in Galt.

Mr. Patterson was a life-long resident of Galt. He graduated from Galt High School in 1943, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Wayne served with the United States Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946 and was a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Galt Fire Department for 17 years, serving as a Captain for ten years and Fire Marshall, and was a ten-year active member of the Galt Fire Department Ambulance service. Wayne served as Chairman of the Cub Scouts Christmas tree sale, was twice elected to serve on the Galt Sanitary District Board of Directors, was the Chartered President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1960, serving as State Director in 1961, and purposed and erected the first Little League ball park and managed Little League teams for two years.

He was also elected to the Galt City Council from 1962 to 1966, serving on nine of eleven active committees, acted as liaison with the local sanitary and water board, was appointed to serve as Chairman on the local Recreation Board, served two terms as president of the Galt Booster Club, was awarded citizen of the Year in 1970, and worked many years as a warehouse superintendent for the Heieck Supply Company in Sacramento.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline Patterson, of Lodi; son, Terry Patterson, of Twin Falls, Idaho; daughter, Robin Novo, of Herald; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanne and Doris.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Galt-Arno Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ben Salas Funeral Home, 149 4th St., Galt.

Ben Salas Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
