Marvin ‘Butch’ Abeldt

Marvin Albert "Butch" Abeldt , 92, of Lodi, died May 16. He was born March 5, 1921 in Tampa, Kan.

Mr. Abeldt was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, where he deployed to the Pacific Theater as part of the 41st Division of the 3rd U.S. Army. He participated in combat in the Southern Philippines Campaign. He was later employed as a "body and fender man" in the auto body repair trade. He worked at Victor Brand, Goehring Meat Company. He later established a lawn mowing service. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, hunting, fishing and backpacking, and served as the Scoutmaster for Boy Scount Troop 199.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie (Goehring) Abeldt; daughter, Susan M. Abeldt of Folsom; son, Philip J. Abeldt of Lodi; brother, Harvey Abeldt of Santee and Vernon Abeldt of Las Vegas; sisters, Bernice Miller of Maple Valley, Wash., Arlene Richmond of Pensacola, Fla., and Marlene Breese of Junction City, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Flowers, Cherokee Memorial Park, East Harney Lane at Highway 99, followed by burial services with full military honors. A celebration of his life will be held after the burial at his son's home. For more information, call 209-369-6335 or 209-747-0477 for the address.
