Maynard Delano Handel, 79, of Lodi, died Jan. 8. He was born on June 20, 1933 in Lodi.

Mr. Handel graduated from Lodi High School. He was a grape farmer in the Lodi area, an adult community leader for Alpine/Victor 4-H, and a community leader in Farm Bureau and in Young Farmers. He managed the Grape Pavilion at the Lodi Grape Festival for several years. He was a lifelong member and usher for Zion Reformed Church. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting deer and fishing for abalone. He served as the Fire Chief of Mokelumne Rural Fire District.

He is survived by his son, Eric Handel; daughter, Pamm Handel; brothers, Lionell Handel of Salinas, and John Mostowski of Escalon; and many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Eisenbeis; second wife, Diane Hoskins; and sister, Marlene Mostowski.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday at Lodi Memorial Park, 5750 E. Pine St., Lodi. Immediately following the graveside services, a Mokelumne Rural Fire District fire truck will act as honor guard to escort the vehicles of the family and friends to the Mokelumne Fire Station at 13157 E. Brandt Road in Lockeford, for a celebration of his life. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m, to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School St., Lodi.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mokelumne Firefighters Association, for purchase of rescue equipment in Mr. Hansel's honor.

Donahue Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangments.
