Cruz Ruiz Tamez, 84, of Acampo, died May 24 at a local hospital of natural causes. She was born Sept. 14, 1917 in Gral. Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and lived briefly in McAllen, Texas, before moving to the Lodi area in 1956.
Mrs. Tamez was a farm laborer with her family, following crops from place to place. They called Acampo their home and always returned there after the harvest season. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church and enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses.
She also enjoyed cooking, sewing clothes for her children and vacations to Mexico to visit her family.
She is survived by a son, Eleasar Tamez of Acampo; daughters, Guadalupe DelaCruz, Maria Castillo and Maria T. Tamez all of Lodi, Antonia Rodriguez of French Camp, Felicitas T. Lucero, Francisca Pineda and Irene Hinojosa, all of Woodbridge, and Blanca E. Pequeno of McAllen of Texas; brothers, Paulo and Juan Ruiz of Mexico; a sister, Concepcion Rivas of Mexico; 38 grandchildren and 75 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Tamez, and two sons, Francisco and Olegario Tamez.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lodi Funeral Home.
A funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lodi Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Annes Catholic church with Father Luis Garcia of St. Gertrudes Catholic Church in Stockton officiating.
Committal will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lodi Funeral Home.
