Joseph Borges, 79, of Galt, died Dec. 16. He was born on March 12, 1929, in Modesto.

Mr. Borges grew up in Stevinson and later moved to the East Bay Area, where he resided for many years. He was employed as an electrician for over 40 years. Mr. Borges also served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He resided in Galt for the past 14 years and enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Lou Borges, of Galt; daughter, Micky Jay; sons, Bob Borges, Larry Borges and Joey Borges; stepsons, Johnny Varner, Carl Varner and David Varner; eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Highway 99 and Harney Lane, Lodi. Committal will follow in the Garden of Angels, with Mr. Roy Gross officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, Lodi.
