Parminder Singh Shergill, 43, of Lodi, died Jan. 25. He was born May 17, 1970, in Jagatpur, Punjab, India.

Mr. Shergill graduated from Lodi High School in 1989 and joined the Army, assigned to the infantry division. After spending two years in Germany, he served in Iraq during the Gulf War. After he was honorably discharged in 1995, he returned to Lodi and attended San Joaquin Delta College, where he earned an associate degree. He attended University of the Pacific for two semesters, studying biochemistry. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento in Aug. 2001 with a degree in biochemistry and electrical engineering.

He is survived by his mother, Sukhwinder K. Shergill of Lodi; brother, Sarabjit Shergill of Lodi; and sister, Kulbinder Sohota of Lodi.

A candlelight vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Deshmesh Darbar Sikh Temple, 12098, N. West Lane, Lodi (corner of West Lane and Armstrong Road). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 8 in the Chapel of Flowers at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home.

Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
