Turlock Rivercats Take Minor League California District 73 TOC Championship

Posted: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 9:38 am

The Turlock Rivercats went as far as they can go winning the Tournament of Champions Saturday June 15th at Julien Field beating Atwater 3-2. Our son Cory Rodriguez is manager and head coach for this winning team. This was their second year in a row holding the title of  Turlock City Champions. What a joy it was to watch our 10 year old grandson Dominic (Dom) step up on the mound to start this game. He pitched his full limit before being moved to shortstop for the last two innings. Dominic made an outstanding throw to first base to hold the score at 3-2 in the top of the sixth. Cory said this was probably the toughest game the Rivercats played all season. "Their playing the best ball right now" stated Coach Rodriguez.. The Rivercats went 16-1 for the regular season with Dominic hitting two homeruns. It's off now to the Major team the Yankees where Cory will coach. Dominic also plays for NorCal Valley travel team out of Modesto. My husband Jerry and myself manage LaEspana apartments on Ham Lane, but find time to travel down to Turlock to watch Little League games which we love!

When asked by the Turlock local paper reporter after the game how he felt winning this game Dominic said "GOOD, I just want to play ball!" Not only is he an awesome ball player and straight A student it sounds like he is very humble which grandma and grandpa already knew!
