Galt Boy Scout Troop 119 is kicking off their fiftieth year in Galt with new projects for 2014! They are bringing a national program, Flag Across America, to the community. A subscription to Flags Across America provides a 3’ x 5’ American flag placed in your yard six times a year on patriotic holidays. The holidays included are President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran’s Day. The scouts will place the flag early the morning of the holiday and then return at dusk to remove it. The cost for a one year subscription is $35 and all monies raised will help pay for scouting activities.

Troop 119 has been active for the past fifty years in Galt both serving the community and building strong men. The current group of scouts has been very enthusiastic and active in the past years. They were on hand at many community events through the holidays including the Rae House Holiday Event and The City Tree Lighting and Parade. They will be out in force on Feb. 8 for the Tiny Smiles Marathon, serving water and taking care of set up and clean up responsibilities. And they are looking forward to placing the first flags on President’s Day.

In celebration of fifty years, Troop 119 has plans to attend camp in San Diego at the beautiful Camp Fiesta Island on Mission Bay. While there, the scouts will have opportunities to partake in SCUBA diving, sailing, surfing and swimming and will earn merit badges and further the leadership training that is at the core of the Boy Scout program. The Flags Across America program is an integral part of their fundraising effort for this camping experience.

To participate in the Flags Across America program, or to get information about scouting, contact Vickie Ashworth, Committee Chair at 209-251-3757 or email Troop 119 at troop119galt@yahoo.com.
